Other ads animated a photo of a 14-year-old Instagram influencer “showing off her new sports club uniform” into “a video of her performing oral sex.”

Ok that's enough internet for now. Please alert me when it is safe to return.

[–] WoolyNelson@lemmy.world 123 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Internet? That's enough humanity. We had a... run. Time to burn it all down.

[–] andyburke@fedia.io 71 points 2 days ago (1 children)

fwiw, I think this is their actual endgame: use digital to convince people this isn't a small cabal of the ultrawealthy causing so much of this harm.

They say dictators don't need majority support, only a majority of people doubting themselves.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 52 points 2 days ago (2 children)

At least 56,575 children are sexually abused every year.

That’s according to U.S. child protective services records.

The number is staggering—yet it only reflects child sexual abuse that is recognized, reported, and found likely to have occurred against children ages 0-17.

FBI crime data shows that 51% of reported rape is perpetrated against people ages 0-19.

That’s approximately 61,754 young rape victims every year, including our most vulnerable children, adolescents navigating middle and high school, and young adults just beginning to move through the world with more independence.

It's really not a small cabal of the ultrawealthy though.

The point I was making was that it isn't just a small cabal of the ultrawealthy that commit these crimes. A point that went right over your head in your attempt to downplay the severity of child rape.

[–] andyburke@fedia.io 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That are trying to normalize AI nudifying apps usable on kids?

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 43 points 2 days ago (2 children)

That are trying to normalize pedophilia.

[–] cley_faye@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

When what passes for the leader of the "free world" is a spearhead for pedophilia it's kind of a bit late to be safe talking about "normalizing" stuff.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well yeah, that's why it's so silly to see comments about how these people at the top are trying to normalize it. It already is, they're already in power, they're not going anywhere.

[–] DaveyRocket@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Trump lost, but when he racked up a bunch of felonies, found guilty of rape, and deep connections with Jeffery Epstein’s sex-trafficking operations… well America decided to give him another shot. I’m super curious what the textbooks aren’t going to say.

[–] madmantis24@lemmy.wtf 5 points 1 day ago

I need all the optimism left in me just to believe we'll have textbooks worth thinking about in the future

[–] GreenBeard@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I doubt that group would be very significant if it weren't for the outsized influence of a handful of very wealthy, decadent men. At the very least there would be fewer roadblocks to doing something about the rest of the pervs.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works -1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

fewer roadblocks to doing something about the rest of the pervs.

There are very few roadblocks for rapists as it is.

[–] GreenBeard@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 days ago

That's what I said

[–] spankysalmon@fedinsfw.app 24 points 2 days ago

Humanity's fine if we ripped down these over-paid pedos instead of allowed them to run billion dollar scams...

[–] shartgargle@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 days ago

If you're the last one out, please shut off the lights.

Don't wait standing

(I dont know if this translates, in argentina we day "get yourself a chair" or "don't wait standing" meaning that something wont happen)

[–] Saledovil@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 day ago

The English equivalent would be "Don't hold your breath"

[–] TipRing@lemmy.world 65 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The meaning of the idiom is remarkably clear in English. I propose we adopt this one.

[–] Toga77@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Pull up a seat at the table.

[–] k0e3@lemmy.ca 54 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think we say, "don't hold your breath," in English.

[–] h0tbeef@lemmy.zip 37 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Or “don’t count on it” (because if you did you’d be counting for eternity)

I’m sure there’s more I’m not thinking of right now…

“Why don’t you wish in one hand and shit in the other, and see which one fills up first”

… yeah, I like the chair one

[–] kestrel7_7@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago (3 children)

When I was a kid I thought the saying was “why don’t you piss in one hand and shit in the other, and see which one fills first?” And I was like wow adults are gross

[–] Ghost_Mermaid@lemmy.zip 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

My mother used to say "If wishes were horses," and I had no idea where that came from. I didn't get internet until after her death in 2001. I looked up that saying and the complete version is, " If wishes were horses then beggars would ride. " Apparently, it's a very old saying so I guess adults weren't always gross.

[–] musubibreakfast@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

No, that's wrong. Here's the correct saying: If wishes were horses than I horse you a wish cock up the ass.

[–] SethTaylor@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

"Don't kink shame"

[–] h0tbeef@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

idk which hand you’d fill first doing that method, lmao

It’s basically just a crass way to say “wishing is for suckers”

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

idk which hand you’d fill first doing that method

Definitely the piss hand, unless your bowels are unwell.

..is not a sentence I thought I'd be typing today 😄

[–] h0tbeef@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

Liquid is harder to hold tho, so I think it depends on how you (subjectively) define when your hand is “full”

[–] Uruanna@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That sounds kinda close to an old saying I've heard once in over 40 years

Put a finger in your mouth and a finger in your anus, and hope; if that doesn't work, switch around.

[–] h0tbeef@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Lmao, where’d you hear that one?

[–] Uruanna@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

High school from some staff member I think. Maybe 25 years ago.

[–] NihilsineNefas@slrpnk.net 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Well I know what phrase I'm using at the next opportunity

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 30 points 2 days ago

Ah, in English we say "don't hold your breath" for that, although sometimes it's also used for things that might happen eventually but it will take a long time.

[–] db2@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

It works. I'm going to start using it in fact.

[–] cinoreus@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This place is currently safer than other places right now.

[–] myyass@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago

I don't know how to understand the anger I feel.

[–] cley_faye@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Better pull the plug on that bell, because "it's here to stay", some people says proudly.
