- No memes, trolling, misinformation, or low-effort posts/comments (including reposts). If you see posts like this that anger you, do not engage. Report, block, and live a happier life than they do. Any slap-fight is subject to comment removals. Fights full of rule violations will result in temporary bans to cool off.
- No manipulating votes via bots or alt accounts; this will result in permanent bans. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
- No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in an account ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be permanently banned.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules and use critical thinking when reading, posting, and commenting. Users that repeatedly have comments or posts removed, weaponize reports, or violate the code of conduct, will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. I'm conflicted: they are hilarious... but aren't they billionaires? This is such a rare combo, I don't know what to think. Lemmy, tell me what to think!
They actually earned their money though.
It's different, when they are fighting for the common good no less. And they've been doing so for the most part since after the 00s at least when they still kind of didn't get how it was going to play out.
If I had to criticize them, it would be they took some wrong takes, but who hasn't? They did in good faith as I can see.

Yeah you would have a point. Except for the TV and movie industry, which famously has absolutely 0 victims…

You are right on. I think being able to acknowledge the bad parts of people is important.
I like Trey and Matt, but they are not perfect people. If we are all the age we should be on here we shouldn’t have heroes.
I mean, they created a wildly popular show that's been around over 20 years. I can't think of anything they've done otherwise. I'm sure it's possible to earn a billion dollars, but highly unlikely. If anything, they're the exception to the rule, I'd say.
Aside from South Park (which includes tons of merchandise, several games, and a movie) they did do a few movies (low forgettable Orgasmo, and cult classics BASEketball and Team America: World Police) and a WILDLY successful Broadway musical The Book of Mormon which won 9 Tony Awards.
The bulk of those earnings like came from South Park in some form or fashion
I’ve always felt like artists could be the one exception to “there should be no billionaires”.
If you make tremendous wealth from many many many small payments for your art from many many people… that is not exploitation, that is success in its purest form.

My opinion is, they have to be willing to pay their taxes, and not be worse then your 'average driver who only cuts people accidentally' rather than a BMW driver. I would expect them to make some serious self-deprecating digs at being billionaires as well. Also Casa Bonita needs to go International!

There’s this sort of mythos that exists that if you’re a billionaire you’re automatically smarter, more capable and harder-working than everyone else.
It’s a myth, for sure. Most are not working physically harder than the guy scrubbing their excutive toilets, and making money is a very specific skill set. This is especially true for people who have primarily built wealth from investing, and/or came from generational wealth. If you have a lot of money, you either won the lottery, or you are really good at amassing wealth, along with being blessed by favorable circumstances.
I think the billionaires who get this separate themselves from the evil exploitative assholes who only want to ruin the world for profit, while paying 0% taxes. It’s not an ego thing for them. While I still oppose a system that allows people to amass $1 billion of assets, sufficiently taxing the wealthy would be a good start.
The fact they’re billionaires is the ultimate troll towards an administration that tries to censor and financially punish them. It’s a big fuck you.
They worked hard for decades and have talent.
