A place to politely discuss the tools, technique and culture of photography.

This is not a good place to simply share cool photos/videos or promote your own work and projects, but rather a place to discuss photography as an art and post things that would be of interest to other photographers.

So I'm an hobbiest photographer, started since I was 8 and have been going on and off about it, since a few years ago I started doing some event all well so far, then I was invited to take a group photo in a small celebration for a price and I setup my tripod...flash, cause it's dark outside next to no light and I have a d810 who's ISO performance isn't the best at 8000...so I get a few informal pics then one person start telling me I shouldn't use the flash that it's too harsh blablabla, setup of the flash was just bouncing on the celling to light up the room..., so now the only formal pictures I have is 'unusable' still I put it in b&w so that the noise is less noticable and called It a day...but still...

Ok rant over sorry...

Oh yeah also edit :

No it was not someone I could tell off in this situation for professional reasons...

I'm sorry but either learn how to deal with these situations or get out of the game. Complaining after the fact on the internet is not going to help you.

It sounds like the person who hired you told you not to use flash. You will get people who don't want it cause it's distracting, and you'll have to know to address it in contract or work around situations like that. If it was cause they thought they knew more about photography than you, you need to find better ways to communicate with the client.

If it wasn't the client, you need to find ways to deal with whatever the situation is that you want to be vague about, cause no one here can read your mind or help you if they don't know what the situation is.
