I recently purchased the Sony Linkbuds S and am very disappointed with their sound. The low end is good but the high end sounds almost muffled. Lacking the sound quality i’d expect from an earbud ago this price. I’ve also been having awful connectivity issues where one bud or the other keeps cutting out.

Does anybody know how the Sony C700 compare to the Linkbuds S? If i’m unsatisfied with these will I be unsatisfied with those? Should I bite the bullet and go for the Sony WF XM5? Or does anybody know of any solid earbuds with great sound for $200 USD or less?

The linkbuds s actually do alright, pretty good even as long as you apply parametric eq using wavelet or Poweramp or however else you might want to do so. I've personally found the best eq profile for wavelet to come from playing with different targets found on squig.link then adjusting to taste before generating the eq profile, I'd highly recommend giving it a try (assuming those pesky connection issues can be fixed).

As far as the connection issues go, if you haven't already, you may want to make sure (if you're using the LDAC codec) that the buds are set to "best effort" mode for LDAC. If not using LDAC, then there is also a separate option in the Sony Headphones Connect app for choosing between prioritizing sound quality or connection stability, which might also be worth trying out.
