I recently purchased the Sony Linkbuds S and am very disappointed with their sound. The low end is good but the high end sounds almost muffled. Lacking the sound quality i’d expect from an earbud ago this price. I’ve also been having awful connectivity issues where one bud or the other keeps cutting out.

Does anybody know how the Sony C700 compare to the Linkbuds S? If i’m unsatisfied with these will I be unsatisfied with those? Should I bite the bullet and go for the Sony WF XM5? Or does anybody know of any solid earbuds with great sound for $200 USD or less?

The linkbuds s actually do alright, pretty good even as long as you apply parametric eq using wavelet or Poweramp or however else you might want to do so. I've personally found the best eq profile for wavelet to come from playing with different targets found on squig.link then adjusting to taste before generating the eq profile, I'd highly recommend giving it a try (assuming those pesky connection issues can be fixed).

As far as the connection issues go, if you haven't already, you may want to make sure (if you're using the LDAC codec) that the buds are set to "best effort" mode for LDAC. If not using LDAC, then there is also a separate option in the Sony Headphones Connect app for choosing between prioritizing sound quality or connection stability, which might also be worth trying out.

The Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro are on sale for like 150 at Costco right now. I just picked them up a couple of days ago, and the sound is better than expected. Do your own research, but there are lots of fans of these buds here on reddit if you search around.

I don’t know about the XM5, but someone I know who has the XM4 was blown away by how KZ ZAS sounded with KZ’s bluetooth ear hooks. He spent a week raving to other sound nerds before getting a pair for himself.

ZAS has a bit too much bass for my ears without EQ adjustments. AS16 Pro has a more balances detailed sound.

Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 are excellent and probably better than the XM5 (they are better than the XM4, which I also have).

Have you tried EQing them to fit to your liking a little better?

I have the XM5s and I'm pretty damn happy with them. They sound really fucking good, much better than my old beats pro 2s, probably better than my old Audio Techanicas, but jt could be because they silence anything coming in with ANC

I haven't tried any of the other recommended buds, but with the Xm5s I can put them in, and I wouldn't be able to hear someone right next to me with ANC on or shouting kids. pretty good when I need to focus in a loud area.
