The Pistons are in year 4 of their rebuild (some would say they’ve been rebuilding since the Drummond draft), and currently seem to be taking steps backwards with their young core.

Cade is currently the least efficient player to average 20+ ppg in the league & Monty has been questionable with his coaching patterns. Their 2020 draft where they selected Hayes, Stewart, & Bey, has been a failure considering who was available on the board. They had similar cap money to Houston this off-season & instead of adding quality vets to help their core, they took on expiring contracts for players that aren’t even in the rotation.

There is no doubt they are the “black eye” of the league, & have been for some time.

Giving Monty that contract was such a huge mistake

[–] Bababooey98@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

No coach in the league could succeed with such shit talent. The Pistons have a bottom 5 roster and a bottom 5 record. Why should that surprise anyone?

[–] Embarrassed-Cake8531@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Lmaoo u give spoelstra that exact team and they have atleast 8 wins by now

[–] prettyboylee@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

You think they wouldn’t have a bottom 5 record simply cause Spoelstra coached them?

[–] Embarrassed-Cake8531@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Coach spo coached dion waiters , Hassan whiteside , and James Johnson as his main players and turned around an 11-30 record to start the season and finished 30-11 41-41 for the season in 16,17. So yea u give spo the pistons roster and he’s getting u wins

[–] prettyboylee@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

turned around an 11-30 record to start the season and finished 30-11 41-41 for the season

I’m confused by your comment

[–] Embarrassed-Cake8531@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

In 2016-17 we started the season 11-30 , with the core players of goran, waiters , whiteside , James Johnson , Tyler Johnson just mediocre ass players and with no trades in that season that team turned around in the second half of the season going 30-11 so I’d think he’d do just fine with the talent the pistons have

[–] blackjebus100@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Of the first 41 games they only won 11 of them, they then proceeded to win 30 out of the next 41 games to give them a 41-41 record. There are 82 games in a season.

[–] Embarrassed-Cake8531@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I mean shi literally look at last year what ? After the first round where it was just jimmy every team we went against had a better roster and coach spo ran laps around mazzula and thibs he’s doing that to everyone

[–] Gauthzu@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)
[–] livefreeordont@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Not really. Spo has a history of turning shit into silver

This doesn’t make sense. You say this then you later that he had a team that started 11-30. That’s what the pistons are doing right now. But a lot do the issue with Detroit is they have a losing culture for the last 15 years at least. Miami with Riley and Spo have created a winning culture.

[–] zs15@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yup, potential vs NBA talent. Pistons have lots of guys with potential, but they aren't NBA starter talents yet.

[–] Krillin113@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Do they actually have lots of guys with potential? Cade straight up isn’t all that good, I wouldn’t be surprised if he never makes all nba, Ivey obviously is an nba talent but he’s not great. Is wiseman even still alive?

[–] zs15@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I think they do. Is just a matter of growth. Cade could very well need to take the Wiggins path instead of the Ant.

Cade has the kind of physical attributes and skill set that could make him top 10. I don't think he's a lead ball handler, they need a starting PG who can steer the offense, with Cade providing the wild card that breaks teams down.

Duren might be the best of the bunch, at what is still probably the most impactful position in the NBA.

Ivey, Thompson, and Stewart all have ideal role-player skill set for good teams.

[–] fishsticks199@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Honestly the more I watch Cade the more I think he doesn’t have the physical attributes to be top 10. It’s kinda weird watching a big PG who isn’t a bad shooter struggle to create space. Only other similar guy I can think of is D’Lo

[–] zs15@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Again it's about potential, eventually there will come a point where we say "Damn, Cade is just fucking inefficient." and we stop saying he's that guy.

[–] NewBuddha32@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Duren, stew, cade, ivey, ausar all have immense potential. If you dont watch us why act like you have a clue?

[–] Krillin113@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Immense potential? How many of them have all nba potential? Duren; maybe. Stew; hard disagree. Cade; maybe. Ivey; don’t think so but might make an all star game at some point. Ausar, too early to really tell, but I’d say maybe? I’d be shocked if more than 2 of the 5 make an all nba team in their career, and more than 3 make an all star game. My prediction is 1 all nba 2 all stars.

That’s decent but not insane.

[–] BetweenTheBuzzAndMe@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

they didn't give him 6 years for him to turn it around in 4 weeks lol. Detroit's FO needs to take a good long look at the shit roster they created

[–] StarryScans@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Give it to Doc Rivers and he will somehow make a play-in with that team.

[–] Forsaken-Gap-3684@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Suns could have told you that

[–] draymond-@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Garbage fans who shit talk the coach who took them from the depths to the literal NBA finals. I hope Suns never win a ring.

[–] sunsbr@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Monty did a great job in his first 2 seasons in Phoenix. He turned around the franchise after a 63 loss season

[–] HesiPullup@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Nah I thought it was going to be a great hire (and it honestly still could be)

The culture Monty established in Phoenix was imperative to our success. Then again, maybe it was just the personnel.

[–] No-Presentation6616@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Exactly this, Monty wasn’t hired to take the pistons to the the championship overnight, he was hired to change the culture and teach the young guys how to win like he did in Phoenix. That takes time especially when he’s brought into the worst roster in the league.

[–] anon135797531@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

They just aren’t going to win with Cade chuckingham playing historically badly for a high usage player

[–] No-Presentation6616@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Cade has one season with over 16 games in his career which was his rookie season. I’m 100% sure his efficiency will go up when the roster isn’t bottom last in talent. He’s a natural playmaker with no one to pass to

[–] not_so_bueno@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Monty has proven in two situations that he's a solid head coach. He can't change the fact Cade is bad.
