The Pistons are in year 4 of their rebuild (some would say they’ve been rebuilding since the Drummond draft), and currently seem to be taking steps backwards with their young core.

Cade is currently the least efficient player to average 20+ ppg in the league & Monty has been questionable with his coaching patterns. Their 2020 draft where they selected Hayes, Stewart, & Bey, has been a failure considering who was available on the board. They had similar cap money to Houston this off-season & instead of adding quality vets to help their core, they took on expiring contracts for players that aren’t even in the rotation.

There is no doubt they are the “black eye” of the league, & have been for some time.

Giving Monty that contract was such a huge mistake

[–] Forsaken-Gap-3684@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Suns could have told you that

[–] HesiPullup@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Nah I thought it was going to be a great hire (and it honestly still could be)

The culture Monty established in Phoenix was imperative to our success. Then again, maybe it was just the personnel.

[–] No-Presentation6616@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Exactly this, Monty wasn’t hired to take the pistons to the the championship overnight, he was hired to change the culture and teach the young guys how to win like he did in Phoenix. That takes time especially when he’s brought into the worst roster in the league.

[–] anon135797531@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

They just aren’t going to win with Cade chuckingham playing historically badly for a high usage player

Monty did a great job in his first 2 seasons in Phoenix. He turned around the franchise after a 63 loss season

[–] draymond-@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Garbage fans who shit talk the coach who took them from the depths to the literal NBA finals. I hope Suns never win a ring.

[–] Bababooey98@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

No coach in the league could succeed with such shit talent. The Pistons have a bottom 5 roster and a bottom 5 record. Why should that surprise anyone?

[–] Embarrassed-Cake8531@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Lmaoo u give spoelstra that exact team and they have atleast 8 wins by now

[–] Gauthzu@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)
[–] livefreeordont@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Not really. Spo has a history of turning shit into silver

[–] Gauthzu@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)
[–] TuasBestie@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Of course lol

[–] prettyboylee@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

You think they wouldn’t have a bottom 5 record simply cause Spoelstra coached them?

[–] Embarrassed-Cake8531@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Coach spo coached dion waiters , Hassan whiteside , and James Johnson as his main players and turned around an 11-30 record to start the season and finished 30-11 41-41 for the season in 16,17. So yea u give spo the pistons roster and he’s getting u wins

[–] prettyboylee@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

turned around an 11-30 record to start the season and finished 30-11 41-41 for the season

I’m confused by your comment

[–] blackjebus100@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Of the first 41 games they only won 11 of them, they then proceeded to win 30 out of the next 41 games to give them a 41-41 record. There are 82 games in a season.

[–] Embarrassed-Cake8531@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

In 2016-17 we started the season 11-30 , with the core players of goran, waiters , whiteside , James Johnson , Tyler Johnson just mediocre ass players and with no trades in that season that team turned around in the second half of the season going 30-11 so I’d think he’d do just fine with the talent the pistons have

[–] Embarrassed-Cake8531@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I mean shi literally look at last year what ? After the first round where it was just jimmy every team we went against had a better roster and coach spo ran laps around mazzula and thibs he’s doing that to everyone

Yup, potential vs NBA talent. Pistons have lots of guys with potential, but they aren't NBA starter talents yet.

they didn't give him 6 years for him to turn it around in 4 weeks lol. Detroit's FO needs to take a good long look at the shit roster they created

[–] StarryScans@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Give it to Doc Rivers and he will somehow make a play-in with that team.

This started way before James Wiseman was even thought of

[–] _coed_@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Its the curse that comes with having the worst jerseys in the league, process sixers suffered the same fate

[–] Limp-Giraffe-4411@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

And Blake Griffin sacrificed his body for them smh

[–] thriftydude@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Victor Wembanyama on the Detroit Pistons being an 8 win pace for an 82 game season, which would be the worse record in history: "I don't know if somebody got fired, but the Pistons did their job checking on Monty. I don't know. It's a real shame."

[–] amit-kaufman@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (6 children)

Any Detroit fans that can give a little insight on why Cade has been so bad? I was very high on him pre-injury but haven't watched much Pistons this year.

[–] spellman1969@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

He is surrounded by shit. Zero spacing. He’s a 22 year old coming off an injury, being asked to lead 20 year old players lol they need a vet.

[–] eanregguht@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I don't watch the Pistons either but here are the issues with Cade: He can't dribble and has no explosiveness. A guy like that needs a lot of space to work and the Pistons are the antithesis of spacing.

[–] Ajbksfinest@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Playmaking is subpar, lose handles, not explosive or athletic. He struggles to create space to get open shots and he doesn’t like to take any contact.

He still young but probably needs a reduced role.

No spacing, defense just focuses on him in the 4th and he's not quick enough to exploit it and his teammates aren't good enough to move well off ball

The Pistons might be the worst basketball team I've ever seen and I remember the Isiah Thomas-led Knicks

[–] RJBarrettsBurner@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Nah, can’t beat the 14-15 Knicks where Melo was in and out of the lineup and we lost 16 straight at one point

I admit it, I was wrong about the Pistons. I thought Monty Williams was good at turning around bad young teams into competitive ones. Even if Cade’s efficiency wasn’t atrocious so far they would at most have 3 wins this year. Monty isn’t switching up the lineups and rotations, and it has cost this team dearly.

[–] Pepeloveshimself22@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

This is why I told people to ease on the completely unnecessary Troy Weaver glazing. “By God, he’s done an amazing job” lmao what has he even done right?

[–] stebus88@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

They are a really strange team. Cade has superstar upside, Duren is probably the next great American big and Ivey, Stewart and Ausar are all more than decent players.

They desperately need vet leadership and improved spacing, both of which could be improved when Bojan and Joe Harris returns.

It looks bad right now but I feel they have a lot of potential if they can figure it all out.

[–] thatonezorofan@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Lol, at this point Cade is closer to bust material than Superstar upside. Dude isn't explosive, is a mediocre shooter, cannot protect the ball and is meh at playmaking. I don't see the superstar potential at all. Dude needs to be in a reduced role cause he IS NOT the dude that's gonna convert this Piston team into a contender in the future. I'm not saying he isn't a good player or won't be a great player in the future, what I'm saying is that he isn't going to be a superstar.

I think “superstar upside” for Cade is out the window. The guy struggles to create separation, inefficient outside shooting & can’t finish at the rim. All-Star upside is more likely

[–] Ohtani-Enjoyer@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Pistons have been rebuilding since Billups got traded for Iverson

When you’re on a worse pace than the worst of the Process Sixers you’re doing really bad.

[–] Affectionate_Bass561@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

How are Bagley and Wiseman working out? The amount of backup centers on this squad is craaazy

Damn it. Wizards can’t even be the best at losing.

[–] FriendlyUncle247@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

The Edmonton Oilers of the NBA

[–] DaRandomBro@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Why trade Saddiq Bey for Wiseman man, at least grab those 5 second round picks that were offered instead

[–] Scientist78@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

No one wants to come play in Detroit Michigan. This is coming from a lifelong pistons fan and past Michigan resident. It’s like the same thing with the Portland trailblazers. No one wants to move to Portland.

[–] Few_Mulberry7393@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

They will likely look better when Bogey and Monte Morris come back but I agree with the last part that Detroit should have done more

Also Monty looks checked out

[–] scarywolverine@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Monte looks like he wont play for at least a couple of months sadly. Had a setback
