It’s an exclamation point on the most exciting play of the sport. You’re not directly taunting an opposing player all you’re doing is highlighting an exciting play you made. Just heard the Toyota Center get the loudest it has been all night while up 20 against the defending champs and a whistle takes the air out of the whole arena.

I agree with having that tech in, since in the past the players used to hang for a long time and they implemented this rule for that reason. Having said that, after that rule was implemented I haven’t seen this happen anymore.

Heck, I’ve seen some examples of players getting the whistle and it makes no sense since the time holding the rim is not even that long. They have to stop the momentum so they could safely get down. Referees are just getting ridiculous, if anything the one that suffer are their teammates since if they hold it too long, the opponent will have a chance for an easier basket.
