Although there’s definitely a celebration element, I feel like these guys are also just protecting their landings by waiting for things to clear out/ slow down
NBA - Main
Game analysis, highlights and everything else that is happening in the NBA.
It’s gotten to a point where they’re putting the players in danger. They’re calling it when there’s traffic around them. Like what’s the point?
NBA: its easier to replace an injured player than to replace a rim
He lifted. It got called. It’ll get called every time if you lift. Just hang and you’re fine. Not hard to get
Pulling up is genuinely useful for killing your momentum though. Even people not showboating will do it naturally.
Is this over the Sengun one?
That was dumb. It's correct to the letter of the law, but I don't think it's in the spirit at all. That was not an over the top celebration, and Sengun was going to hang on the rim that long regardless because he had so much momentum.
The nba is soft as fuck. Most players wouldn’t last 2 minutes in the nba of the 80s. And the refs would have been laughed at
Should only give tech if actual dmg is done. Give players warnings if it’s done.
It’s not hanging though. They’re pulling up on the rim
Said this elsewhere, but a lot of the time the lift is to reduce momentum. You can see it on Tatum, he's looking around and trying to avoid an unsafe landing. It's more complicated than just showboating
No, it’s extremely easy to not lift the way most guys who are getting techs do. Like I said, go into a gym and run up to a pull up bar. It takes a lot more effort to pull yourself up rather than stabilize
Who rhe hell said it was about being easy? Dude said safety. Thanks for letting us know pull-ups take effort though haha. I always wondered myself.
The safety of it is because it’s easy. There is zero danger to hanging for an athletic person. The techs are not for hanging
People are defending the calls saying it’s for the sake of not bending the rim. So then I ask: what does a player do? When a player is in transition and they dunk, but swing forward because of their momentum, what is supposed to happen to not get a tech?
Yeah it’s stupid. It should totally be a tech if someone is doing pull ups, but these techs are softer than soft
They wont enforce the flopping rules but god forbid someone hangs just a bit too long and gets T'd up.
I’m okay with it because my team isn’t affected by it and the Celtics, who I hate, are.
Fuck refs, fucking clowns.
Replace them with AI and they'll do better job than those match fixing mofos
Guys it's for two different reasons. It's so the rims don't get bent out of shape which delays the game significantly as it gets corrected (no the NBA doesn't give a fuck about the cost of the actual rim). The second is safety of players, they don't want players hanging on the rim swinging their legs around potentially kicking other players in the face.
W rule
I remember LeBron getting a tech in game 6 of the 2020 finals in the bubble.. when there was like 5 minutes left and they were up by 20 lmao
Does no one seem to realize lifting up when you’re swinging back around slows down your momentum?
you expect people to know physics? smh
It's ok to make the floors slippery as fuck, but don't bend those rims. Maybe invest in a better product that either (1) can better withstand the weight and (2) as needed can be changed much more quickly. Both of those as excuses are bullshit.
Jaylen Brown practically landing on his head a few years back is ok, but don't break those rims.
Bring back backboard slaps on dunks
I support more techs and infractions on star players, they need to be brought back to reality on how the game should be called.
I agree with having that tech in, since in the past the players used to hang for a long time and they implemented this rule for that reason. Having said that, after that rule was implemented I haven’t seen this happen anymore.
Heck, I’ve seen some examples of players getting the whistle and it makes no sense since the time holding the rim is not even that long. They have to stop the momentum so they could safely get down. Referees are just getting ridiculous, if anything the one that suffer are their teammates since if they hold it too long, the opponent will have a chance for an easier basket.
I genuinely thought this was only a college thing. Didn't even realize you could get a tech for this in the NBA.
People in this sub have NEVER dunked and it shows.
The one on Tatum seemed lame last night.
His momentum was carrying him in a direction, and he was waiting to swing back to land straight down.
Didn't seem excessive. But I guess that's subjective.
We need more Shawn Kemps.
Here's Lebron with the one of the most egregious hanging on the rim I've ever seen - no tech called. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zs1B2PA8Bvs
Bron just got one tonight
Just give tech to floppers
It’s as dumb as the local rec center
“No dunking” signs 😂
