I'm seriously confused. More I learn about it more I'm like, what? How do these scenarios and stuff work? What are the rules?

Can someone help me?

dungeons and dragons is but one pen and paper rpg. they all use different rules system but most use formulas around character stats along with a dice roll to find the outcome of actions. some are more tight than others. I personally currently prefer pathfinder 2 for fantasy https://2e.aonprd.com/Rules.aspx
