Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, toxicity and dog-whistling are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !uspolitics@lemmy.world
7) No Hit-and-Run questions.
Please don't delete your post for no apparent reason. If you plan on deleting a question later, say so in the post, or if you feel that you have a good reason to remove it, message a mod beforehand. It's not fair to the ones who took their time to answer, and it's not in the spirit of the community.
8) No Bots.
Posts or comments from bots, LLM's, AIs, Neural Networks, Transformers, or Marvin the Paranoid Android are not welcome in AskLemmy. Real humans only please.
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

Reading the Wikipedia page for Blink, I can't see any justification whatsoever for calling it a bottle episode. I assumed from the upvotes, people knew something I didn't, but, no, they just liked the episode so they upvoted the comment.
It's listed in the link you posted as a bottle episode, so I'll stand by it. ๐พ
Well, I guess it's time to get involved with a wiki project, because I'm calling bullshit.
Effects
Moffat joked that "since I was a kid, I've been thinking of Doctor Who monsters, just now when I do, it costs the art department [โฆ] a lot of money".[8] To create the rigid structure of the angels' dresses, prosthetics supervisors Rob Mayor soaked fabric in fibreglass resin, which was then painted over.[8] Although they are never shown moving on screen, all of the Weeping Angels were played by actresses Aga Blonska and Elen Thomas wearing makeup and prosthetics.[2][8] The actresses wore two distinct masks: one that was more docile looking, and one with fangs bared.[8] Blonska later noted that "I'm partly painted, partly glued into the costume, but it's quite comfortable."[23] Although the actresses were slightly "wobbly" when they stood still, the producers used digital effects to, in essence, freeze the angels on film.[9] Moffat was very pleased with the results, and called them "fantastic".[8] Mulligan later called the effects "so good" and "really creepy".[8]
The argument seems to be based entirely on Tenant t being absent, and fewer special effects than otherwise. Since INTENT seems to matter--for instance the Seinfeld bottle episode of the chinese restaruant was intended as a bottle episode but the budget ballooned due to set construction--I think we need either a statement of intent from the creators in cases where the bottley nature of the episode is not immediately obvious, and I don't think Blink is at all obvious.
