Moderator Guidelines
Moderator Guidelines
- Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
- Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
- When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
- Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
- Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

But offer them to reduce the number of cars on the road by improving bike lanes and public transit to make them a real alternative and they'll shoot you.
No, I'm actually a car enthusiast and would rather we had more train routes so there'd be fewer people driving. Trouble is, it's often hard to justify spending tens of millions for 3 people. Small country and sparsely populated
Yeah but that's not how a train line works. Because a train line is not independent. Sure, you'll spend some millions on making a new line that will connect town A with town B, both small. But the point is not connecting town A with town B, the point is that once A is connected to B, it is also connected with the rest of the country.
It's not just allowing people from A to go to B, is also letting me, living in the other side of the country, to reach B thanks to it being connected to A and to the rest of the rail network.
Those 3 people who get connected aren't the only ones benefitting, everyone can now go to that small country without having a car.
And if the travel time with train is faster than the congested road, it benefits everyone: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downs%E2%80%93Thomson_paradox
If your train stops for every 3 person village, it'll never get anywhere so a car is way faster. If you build lines from all the outlying villages to the small towns that have grocery stores, you can kiss pensions, healthcare and education goodbye as those systems are already barely sustainable.
We need to colonize someone so we can get wealthy off their backs like western nations, or force lower wages to create economic incentives to use us as a dumping ground for money like China. Unfortunately we lack the population for either option.
There are also places where the train connection is already there but it's about 300 km of rail to get to a town 80 km away from you because apparently trains aren't great in swamps so you go through the capital which is the only place big enough to warrant multiple routes going to it so it serves as the de facto hub.
I think if everyone pitched in about 100k eur in additional taxation, we could connect all the towns. National median income of course is about 2k a month pre-tax.
or crush you with their car
