Watch the whole sequence (from 06:15 to 07:30). Ignore the insanely inaccurate subtitles.

2 seconds of funny text vs 1 minute of loud high pitched hard to understand talking over a canned laugh track. Agree to disagree :)

Hmmm...I'm partly deaf and had no trouble understanding it.

Apart from certain pre-filmed sequences, The Young Ones was filmed in front of a live studio audience.

Guessing it has to do with accents and region.

You might be on to something there. I'm Australian, so the accents are easily understandable to me.
