What it means is, the UK can go fully renewable and it will make almost no difference to global emissions.
Climate action doesn't work unless every country is involved.
Climate action doesn't work unless enough of the most polluting countries act to kurb emissions.
As it turns out, the most developed countries are the largest polluters.
It also turns out that the most developed countries also have the most influence in geopolitics.
Why are you framing the UK like it's in a vacuum?
If the UK does go fully renewable and carbon neutral or even carbon negative, that does have an impact because it will make the UK a leader in sustainability. That's a lot of expertise in the whole range of PESTEL (Political, Economical, Social, Technological, Evironmental, and Legal) market forces across many industries that will be exported to other countries.
Ditch the Doomerism. When push comes to shove, humans will move heaven and earth to survive and reduce suffering. So start pushing and shoving those with the capital and political connections into making the better choices.
The future is built not gifted.
Gotta start somewhere, my guy.
