What are you suggesting we do about her?

[–] RootBeerGuy@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 8 months ago (2 children)

I am not Canadian but sounds like not giving her airtime on news or articles in papers is a start. You are just helping her with free advertising.

On the other hand, I like to know what kind of nutjobs are running around my country and what they're up to. I know that it gives them fuel, but I also have a legitimate right to know what's going on so that I can respond accordingly.

She's been around for years and has been thriving in QAnon/sovereign citizen/COVID conspiracy theorist circles without the media coverage.

Shining light on this nutjob is not going to make things any worse, and it's about time normies came to understand the crazy in their midst.

Aren't there a bunch of charges she could fall under? Incitement, threats?

[–] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 5 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Possibly? I think most of what she's said has been pretty vague and undirected. If there are charges that would stick I'm happy to see prosecution, I'm just concerned about bending the law to nab someone obviously despicable but technically law abiding.

Call in an air strike. But you have a point. We will just be stooping down to their level. They are like very bad neighbors. Give it time, they will stumble. My worry is someone innocent will get hurt in the process.

People already are being hurt, people fall into the cult and lose everything, it's sad.

We need a organized mob to run em outta town. The cops can either join the mob or take the day off. No violence, just do what they do and be loud and obnoxious, blockade the sobs till they agree to leave on foot.

Well in Canada we don't have unlimited free speech. We used to arrest people for hate speech and terroristic threats, now we let them get away with it as they grow bolder

[–] Hootz@lemmy.ca 2 points 8 months ago

Correction, we only let the right get away with it, the left or centre protests and gets beaten back immediately while these guys get away with far worse because the cops are afraid they will get violent.

Even if you don't charge her with anything ... just tie her and her people up in court endlessly and let them drain their money in the legal system forever or until they just run out of money.

[–] Hootz@lemmy.ca 1 points 8 months ago

That already is happening, but they just grift harder and people throw money at them.

I'm sure the people of Richmound, SK have a few ideas.
