Motorcycles I can kind of understand. Some people believe that making their cycle loud makes it more “visible” to other drivers, helping to prevent accidents. I don’t think there’s been any studies to prove this, but I can understand why people buy into it.
Yet they always wear dark colors. Hmm…
At that point you probably shouldn't drive a motorcycle. If you're only doing it because of money (fuel efficiency + vehicle price), there are quite a few cheap, small cars nowadays and even the flimsiest of those are still safer than a motorcycle. If you're just doing it because driving a motorcycle is fun, you're the problem.
The general issue is that it's actually pretty hard to drive a motorcycle quietly, because the motor kind of has to be small (necessitating high rpm to get to speed)(unless you're going for something expensive and impractical) and there's not an entire chassis around it to dampen the sound like in a car. If you don't insist on driving quietly and using one of the quieter types of motorcycles, you're pretty much guaranteed to be loud enough to be annoying.
