maybe the west should stop giving Iran more reasons to get nukes.
Iran's actions seem to stem more from their close relationship with the east. Most western allied states de-escelated or gave up nuclear capabilities, such as Ukraine.
Ukraine did it under the promise that US will protect them.
trump proved the world that relying on the US is a stupid ass idea and that nukes are more valuable than American promises
Counterpoint: Nukes are not providing Iran or North Korea any value. In fact it may very well be the justification for why they get wiped off the map.
Counterpoint: if it wasn't nukes, there'd be some other justification. The alleged Iraqi WMD were never found, so basically we toppled their government (not that I'm exactly shedding tears over Saddam, but ISIS wasn't great either), got a bunch of people killed, and blew two trillion dollars out of our ass for ????.
The alleged Iraqi WMD were never found but the CIA did present Aluminium tubes intel to congress at that time.
To be clear, I am not saying Iran could have avoided being attacked or that they should appeal to the USA, far from it. What they need to do is disarm nuclear research and tech in return for the ability to hide behind other NATO members and the EU, as opposed to taking offers from Russia and China which assuredly will not end well.
Nah, how about the US just stop finding excuses to throw away trillions of dollars getting people killed overseas for no reason.
Yeah, we can work towards that by helping the DNC in the midterms.
In the meantime, we need to identify immediate steps to deescalate.
North Korea has nukes and it never gets invaded and gets aid sent to it. Iran doesn't have nukes and it is regularly attacked.
I'd say their presence adds very clear value to the example country that actually has them.
North Korea is surrounded by allied China on one side and proper democracies on the other, but has come close to war many times such as when they bombed an inter-korean liaison office in 2020.
I will repeat that the justification being used to attack Iran is Nuclear Weapons. It is not protecting them, it is the reason they are being attacked, and it also directly benefits hostile dictatorship Russia because they're willing providers of nuclear weapons. Iran is being Grifted.
You keep writing like they have them and thats why they are being attacked. Its specifically because they dont yet have them that they are being attacked. If they already had them like North Korea, their situation would be more similar. I doubt people would be bombing them, in the same way people aren't bombing North Korea despite it acting very hostile and making direct threats.
What I'm saying is that Iran should take initiative to deny Nuclear weapons programs and make promises not to pursue it in the future, like they did during the Obama Administration except this time with European nations and NATO members who would likely jump at the opportunity to weaken Eastern influence on the Middle East.
Instead, what is going to happen is they're going to double down and place all their bets on Russia and China, leading into a wider war.
It's one of those situations where the correct choice is probably the hardest one.
counter counter point, no one dares wipe off North Korea,
because US wiping north Korea means the end of LA.
are you aware of MAD?
Does it sound like a manchild like Trump cares about MAD? We're on the precipice of a forever war, world war 3, or possibly even total annihilation of life on earth and you're sitting there saying everything is great because hyper aggressive nations have nukes.
the US is the hyper aggressive country with nukes
So then you agree with me that we, every nation on earth, should be de-escelating and disarming?
ideally yes,
but given US leading escalations and ignoring its promises it is stupid for any nation to do so.
It absolutely is not stupid to do so because the nukes are providing no value and instead dragging them into conflicts.
look at Ukraine, they had nukes, US promised to protect them if they get rid of them.
trump is too busy sucking Putin's boot.
why aren't you asking yhe US to eliminate its nukes? UK? Israel? South Africa?
What would have protected Ukraine better than Nukes is NATO membership.
yes

I find myself in a lot of these discussions on Lemmy where the other person cannot tell who said what previously and it makes me think it's all just a bunch of bots here to suck dictator cocks.
they didn't need NATO, they needed US to comply with is treaties, in hindsight trusting the US was a mistake.
lmfao you think Ukraine was invaded by Russia because of the USA?
They were invaded by 1 of the 2 nations that agreed to protect them if they disarmed. The US did not uphold its obligations 3 times in a row through multiple administration's. The latest conflict in Ukraine is a result of actions taken by the USA, followed by inaction on our part.
If we didn't request their disarmament, lie about protecting them, it would be a very different landscape there right now.
It isn't solely the fault of the US, but we are major contributors.
yes, because the USA failed to defend it per US signed treaty
