People who don’t watch the WNBA need to understand that Stewie is truly the KD of the WNBA.
I love KD. Extremely talented and had a skill set at his height that was unique.
But KD doesn’t want to be the leader of his team. He deferred to Westbrook, Curry, Kyrie, and now is doing so with Booker.
He wants to play, he doesn’t want the running a team/leadership elements the best player typically takes on.
Stewie is the same way. At UConn she played with at least 6 other All Americans her whole career. She was never the leader of the team. The most talented. Yes. Best player. Yes. But it wasn’t her team.
She went to Seattle; was successful..but that was Sue Bird’s team.
Sue retires, and she immediately goes to New York - Sabrina’s team. Sloot comes in. Another MVP in Jones come in.
Story of Stewie’s career. When she wins, it’s always dominant and it’s always with someone else doing the leading.
This time, Sabrina was too young, Sloot too old. And Stewie struggled because of it.
Great player, a lot of skills and talent. But she’s completely like KD..and for me that keeps her out of the GOAT convo.
Bus rider!
Stewie won 2 MVPs on Sue's bus
do people really consider steph and kyrie leaders? The nets players said harden was the leader when he was on the team and I doubt kyrie was leading the team since he wasnt even able to play for a decent amount of games. I think for GS draymond is the leader and now cp3 is
Steph is absolutely a leader. Dude gave a hell of a speech before dropping 50 in a game 7 against a strong Kings team.
This just isn’t true she’s won two finals mvps as the clear cut best player on her team something kd has never done. You think a 37 and 39 year old sue bird was the reason for those chips?
KD quite literally did that twice in GS
Laney was the leader in New York before Stewie, Sloot, and Jones arrived - not Sabrina.
He outshot and outscored all of those guys (besides Booker) in practically every series they played together...
Literally OP’s point lol. He was the point scorer but didn’t want to be the soft skills leader
That's just conjecture because none of us are in the locker room, and it's odd to bring up in a thread that's primarily focused Stewart's lack of production on the floor.
Which is fair - but my point was also that her teams that won have always been on the talent level (women’s version) of the KD/Steph warriors. This was the first time in her career she faced a team with more talent, and the first time she needed to step up in the leadership department..and just didn’t do it.
When I’d watch Taurasi play in her prime, as long as her team could compete - she was going to win. That’s what GOATs too. And imo, that was the difference with A’ja and Stewie last night.
Does that disprove what he said about the leadership?
Leadership is more than just yelling on the court and being demonstrative. By example is another method - Kareem, Duncan, Dirk all did it that way.
