When AD was traded to LA, most people felt as though the Lakers were fleeced. As a fan of the Lakers, I too thought we gave up just a bit to much because “who were we bidding against”? Ask Pat Riley how that turned out for the Heat. (Although that trade isn’t looking too good for MKE right about now).

Anyway, let’s take a look at what is left from the Pelicans haul.

Brandon Ingram, CJ McCollumn (sort of), Herb Jones (sort of), Dyson Daniels, and a 2025 1st.

Jaxson Hayes is now on the Lakers and playing well in preseason, NAW is on the TWolves and playing very well. Lonzo was traded for Devonte Graham, Satoransky, Garrett Temple and a 2nd.

David Griffin was thought of extremely highly back in 2020, but his mismanagement of assets, poor drafting, and lack of success in developing a good culture in New Orleans has been down right atrocious since.

Getting future firsts are overrated. How many times has it resulted in acquiring a top 5 pick.

The Boston/Nets situation was unique since the owner went from willing to spend an unlimited amount of money to cutting all money and trying to sell the team. Same situation with the Blazers getting Dame from the Nets. Maybe this is just a Nets thing because they decided to stay put with a very mediocre team that could result in giving the Rockets a top 5 pick this year from the Harden trade.

Other than the Nets, teams will go all out the year their unprotected picks are due. We're seeing it now, when it's time to pay up, teams like the Rockets are willing to go all out not to give up a top 5 pick.

I'm ready to be schooled and provided tons of examples when future unprotected picks ended up being a top 5 pick. Can anyone give examples outside of the Nets picks in recent history?

Unprotected Clippers 1st rounder went to Cavaliers in the Baron Davis/Mo Williams trade and that future first round pick became Kyrie Irving.

That’s a good one.

The Lakers traded Gail Goodrich for the Jazz's 1980 pick which turned out to be the #1 following a coin flip. Two years later, the same Lakers got the #1 pick beacuse Ted Stepien is a dipshit and drafted James Worthy

I was thinking more recent, like last 20 years.

So since 2003 but excluding the most obvious examples? Any more rules you would like to add?

Denver got Murray in the top 10 with a pick from the Carmelo trade
