Lakers definitely won that trade.
It would be ironic if they use the 2025 1st to pick either of Lebron's kid and get LeBron as well (via trade request).
NBA - Main
Game analysis, highlights and everything else that is happening in the NBA.
None of that will ever be as good as AD. Lakers won that trade, as they also won a ring.
WEMBY AND CHIP
Not surprised the Dame trade is already a bust after one terrible preseason showing in OKC
"most people felt as though the Lakers were fleeced"
Nope.
Yes they did lol stop rewriting history
People were saying that 2023 pick swap and 2024 first were going to be some of the most valuable assets in the league lmao
It's stupid to say the Dame trade isn't looking good due to 2 pre-season games. If by February the Bucks aren't a top-2 seed in the NBA, then we can consider it.
Also, McColumn lol
I think the Stotts thing isn’t great too.
Undrafted Austin Reaves is better than every single draft pick the Lakers gave up in the trade. Anyone saying the lakers got fleeced was dumb at the time and ever dumber after the championship
Obviously in hindsight, but it's wild because at the 4th pick they could've had Garland. At 8th pick they could've had Rui or Cam Johnson. Dyson Daniels is TBD, I'm pretty high on him. And still one more pick to go, but it's looking pretty good lol.
they got the 8th pickby trading 4
Why can’t it be a win win trade
Pelicans could of got SGA and that will forever set their franchise back
Getting future firsts are overrated. How many times has it resulted in acquiring a top 5 pick.
The Boston/Nets situation was unique since the owner went from willing to spend an unlimited amount of money to cutting all money and trying to sell the team. Same situation with the Blazers getting Dame from the Nets. Maybe this is just a Nets thing because they decided to stay put with a very mediocre team that could result in giving the Rockets a top 5 pick this year from the Harden trade.
Other than the Nets, teams will go all out the year their unprotected picks are due. We're seeing it now, when it's time to pay up, teams like the Rockets are willing to go all out not to give up a top 5 pick.
I'm ready to be schooled and provided tons of examples when future unprotected picks ended up being a top 5 pick. Can anyone give examples outside of the Nets picks in recent history?
Unprotected Clippers 1st rounder went to Cavaliers in the Baron Davis/Mo Williams trade and that future first round pick became Kyrie Irving.
That’s a good one.
The Lakers traded Gail Goodrich for the Jazz's 1980 pick which turned out to be the #1 following a coin flip. Two years later, the same Lakers got the #1 pick beacuse Ted Stepien is a dipshit and drafted James Worthy
I was thinking more recent, like last 20 years.
So since 2003 but excluding the most obvious examples? Any more rules you would like to add?
Denver got Murray in the top 10 with a pick from the Carmelo trade
Who are they bidding against is the most novice take I keep hearing parroted.
Who were they bidding against? The answer was there 4 years ago.
A non deal, and time.
Look at what happened to Damian Lillard, Paul George, Kawhi Leonard. The team can simply keep the player and wait until they change their demands or take a lesser deal from a team gambling. It happens all the time
I really hope Lakers fans talk themselves into Jaxson Hayes being a difference maker. Will be absolutely comedy to see public opinion inevitably change in real time
He’s a third sting center
Lakers won a championship, so they won the trade. But the haul the Pelicans got after subsequent moves is still a solid one. It's not a win/win, at least not yet, but the Pelicans didn't lose.
Lakers of course won since they have a ring. Personally I liked the trade and think Pels got a ton of good value in it but it’s silly to say we “won” anything.
Stop spamming this sub with your bullshit ya bum
They both won the trade
A big point that people forget is that before the AD trade in the offseason, the Lakers almost got AD at the trade deadline with Magic negotiating with the Pelicans. His offer at the deadline was for more steep than what the Lakers ended up giving up in the end. The original offer included Kuzma, Rondo, and more picks on top of giving Lonzo and Ingram. That trade was legitimately a win for the Lakers, they gave up less and won a chip with AD.
most ppl who? lol
