For me it’s Derrick Rose’s career if he hadn’t been injured. The youngest mvp in history with some of the most electric basketball we’ve ever seen, it feels a little like robbery to have not been able to see that unfold.

What if the Pistons drafted Carmelo Anthony instead of Darko? I think surely they win at least one more championship, and Melo gets his ring.

Nah. What if they draft Wade and pair him up with Chauncey and Rip. Or Bosh

It would be Melo > Bron for about 10 years

I actually think that they wouldn’t win any rings with Melo. Not because Melo is a bad player or whatever, but since he was so good right out of the gate, the Pistons wouldn’t feel the need to trade for Rasheed Wallace. I’m my opinion, no Sheed means no ring.

A strong defensive lineup that can hide his deficiencies while still having playmaking and shot creation, I can see it

Considering they took the Spurs to 7 in the Finals the very next year and then made the ECF for three straight years after that, Melo on the Pistons could have been the start of a dynasty.

i feel like wade or both fits in really well, especially since they are very elite off ball defenders and great scoring threats

Yeah but does the rasheed wallace still happen ?

I don’t wanna talk about this.

Melo would have subtracted from that Pistons team tho - they were a great defensive team because ALL of them were great defenders. Put Melo in there, and yeah, he gets you 10-15 extra points per game, but the other team gets 20 by attacking him, not to mention his late rotations and poor switches.

Regular season wouldn’t matter as much, but in the playoffs, he would have sunk them.

I don't think he'd be remotely as good. Melo wouldn't have been able to operate and develop as he did on the Nuggets cuz he would've never been "the guy". Repetition is key in anything and he would've never got the same shot or playmaking reps on the Pistons as he did on the Nuggets.
