I always struggled with the corner shots because I have less of a spacial reference with the side of the backboard facing me. Shooting from the top of the key should be much easier, no? I always had the most success with the 45 degree angle one, right between the key and the corner. Maybe that's just me though.

Multiple reasons:

-Shortest distance

-less field to be aware of around you

-most open looks because a considerably higher % of corner 3s are catch and shoot compared to the rest of the field

Now why it's difficult for you is pretty obvious, chances are you don't play on an NBA court so the distance might be the same and of course you (probably) don't put up thousands of shots aiming for the basket and shooting from the middle is more forgiving with the backboard.
