A place to politely discuss the tools, technique and culture of photography.

This is not a good place to simply share cool photos/videos or promote your own work and projects, but rather a place to discuss photography as an art and post things that would be of interest to other photographers.

I have a somewhat beginner camera canon EOS rebel T7 and will be traveling to NYC this weekend. What are some tips for safely photographing? I’m of course a little worried about getting my camera stolen or damaged and wasn’t sure if there are some recommendations on what to do and not to do. We will be in the Manhattan area and one night in Brooklyn (Williamsburg area)

Everyone there is used to cameras. That said, I use a Peak Design wrist strap, mostly for comfort as it allows me to handhold my camera but not feel like I have to grip it tight. The additional benefit is security -- it tightens as it pulls away so that thing ain't coming off, period.

Have fun! I recommend using a low-profile prime (I used a 40mm) and keep it in aperture mode w/ a maximum ISO set; eliminates the need for most futzing w/ settings as your light situation is constantly changing with each step. If you have an intro Canon it probably came w/ a kit lens (18-55 mm?) and that will be perfect as well.
