A big leap from year one to year two is expected though. The award should be reserved for players who break through after everyone thought they'd plateaued, kind of like Markkanen or Randle or Brunson.
But you're just making up your own definition. The award isn't "most unexpected improved player", who said players who are expected to improve shouldn't be eligible?
So are you?
How? It's called "most improved player" so the player who improved the most should be awarded, it's literally in the name. Nowhere does it say it has to be a surprise.
I'd say historically the MIP award has just been "the biggest surprise" and to many a second year improvement isn't surprising
Maybe that doesn't line up exactly with the name of the award but you can't deny that's how it's been interpreted through the years
