He'd have to be a DPOY candidate/All star to get this in his 2nd year.
The Next Great American Big
The Pistons done messed around and got themselves another Hall of Fame center.🔥

2nd year players don't win
Hes a monster.
Just the natural progression of an excellent young center imo.
Looking like someone who could lead the league in FG%.
Embiid will have to come off the bench for team USA
He's still only 19. He's a fucking monster. His defense has been unreal to start the season and he just eats everyone on the glass.
He’s a eater fr
Imagine winning this at 19-20
might be a better version of bam
Second year players should not be eligible for MIP
Disagree. I agree that more volume and better stats shouldn’t automatically make you an MIP but some dudes look like completely different players from year one to two
A big leap from year one to year two is expected though. The award should be reserved for players who break through after everyone thought they'd plateaued, kind of like Markkanen or Randle or Brunson.
But you're just making up your own definition. The award isn't "most unexpected improved player", who said players who are expected to improve shouldn't be eligible?
I'd say historically the MIP award has just been "the biggest surprise" and to many a second year improvement isn't surprising
Maybe that doesn't line up exactly with the name of the award but you can't deny that's how it's been interpreted through the years
So are you?
How? It's called "most improved player" so the player who improved the most should be awarded, it's literally in the name. Nowhere does it say it has to be a surprise.
Yeah I never understand the people that argue all season for a second year player to win MIP when it almost never happens. Since 1995 there have been only two and they where both second round picks. Gilbert Arenas and Monta Ellis. It’s simply just common sense that a second year player, especially a lottery pick will improve. People need to quit ignoring this context or else they’ll just spend another season arguing for a guy that will not win. Just accept the facts guys.
The 13th pick in the NBA draft for some reason tends to have it's fair share of impact players. Devin Booker, Richard Jefferson, Donovan Mitchell, Tyler Herro, Zach Lavine.
I still don't know how Duren fell that far in the draft. Probably because of Penny Hardaway's coaching, but he should have went way higher.
did you seriously leave out the most iconic 13th pick of all 💀
Ha. Kobe's such a tremendous outlier, I felt weird listing his name with the others. But you are correct. He's the best pick at #13 of all-time to date.
cant believe hes still only 19
He’s a monster
Cleaned up some of the defensive lapses (especially on switches), is more comfortable rolling off ball screen, and is showing to be an adept passer. Excited to see what else he can add to his game.
MVP*
The Cade to Duren connection is so nice.
Only 19 until November
Maxey got it in the bag
2022 Waiver wire Fantasy pickup legend Jalen Duren.Glad he's actually getting full starter minutes now.
He looks like a monster for real. During preseason, I suggested that Presti wishes he took Duren instead of Ousmane Dieng and I got shouted down that I was an idiot on r/thunder lol
I mean Ous is just as young as Duren and Ous’ ceiling is wayyyyy higher than his. If they didn’t get Chet then I get it but with Chet on the roster it didn’t make sense.
That’s all fine reasoning at the time of the draft. But I was being mocked for suggesting Presti would trade Ous for Duren in a heartbeat, after their rookie seasons. Also, I think it’s crazy to suggest Duren and Chet couldn’t play together. OKC fans are already handwringing at the Ous-at-center minutes and a lot of us are all in favor of a Robert Williams trade.
Could they? Sure because Chet is so amazing, but it’s not the vision the thunder want to have. They don’t want guys who can’t make decisions with the ball and duren is more of a normal big. They don’t want to play that way that’s why they are zero normal bigs on their roster
Yeah he is playing like shit because Ous isn’t a center… he’s playing out of position. Ous is a 4.
Ous isn’t playing like shit cause he’s out of position. His mintues at center aren’t helping, sure. He’s playing a lot better than he did last year, but he’s also still got a long way to go to being a valuable, positive contributor. He’s still far too often unsure what to do on either end, lacks assertiveness and quick decision-making. Can those things be developed with experience? Sure. What’s the likelihood they will? Uhhh… the track record isn’t great but never say never. He still has potential and I hope he hits it.
But, Duren already looked like a stud last year. All I was trying to say that one year in, it’s clear Duren is the better asset, and I’m sure if you asked Sam now with hindsight, he’d agree.
Chris bosh esque...I don't see many pistons games, but I think if he can shoot 3s, I'd like him to shoot a bit more, but he's looking very good, I really liked what I saw tonight
I don’t think he should be
I don’t even think Cade should be
Regardless how well they play
If he continues it late in the season, and no one improves more than him, I don't see why not. Dq-ing early career/high draft picks is lame.
It will be Devin Vassell, sorry.
Dude the season is 5 days old. Chill
I’m always a fan of board eaters. Except for Drummond. Does he have any sign of potential to be able to shoot down the line?
Yeah he's flashed it. Has better vision and a better motor than Drummond ever did while still being a beast on the boards

Stop giving MIP to second- and third-year lottery picks.
Like, these are literally the guys who are supposed to be making these jumps on this exact kind of schedule. (JD’s early, but still.)
I call him the Drummond that could
I can't see how he can physically keep this up as a 19 for an entire season against the massive guys in the NBA. But holy Jesus this kid looks like a monster.
He could be the Rudy gay of the next 10 years.
