The far-right congresswoman has increasingly broken ranks with the MAGA movement, leading even Donald Trump to wonder ‘What's going on with Marjorie?’

Marjorie Taylor Greene has hit out at her fellow Republicans for "doing nothing" about rising food and healthcare costs in her latest breach with the Trump administration.

In an interview with the conservative broadcaster Real America's Voice on Tuesday, the Georgia congresswoman warned that letting Joe Biden's Affordable Care Act subsidies expire at the end of the year would "crush" Americans' finances.

Those subsidies are now at the heart of a government shutdown that's lasted 15 days and counting. Senate Democrats are demanding the subsidies be extended as a condition of reopening the government while Republicans are refusing to budge.

The more I hear from this woman, the more I feel like there might actually be a decent heart deep down inside who wants to better her country, but is being hindered by an incredibly stupid brain that is calling the shots.

[–] Washedupcynic@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I hope that's true. The cynic in me thinks she's playing the long game and plans to make a presidental run, which means breaking away from MAGA to be more palatable to reublican, neoliberal, and independent voters. The cynic in me also thinks that she's pissed she didn't get a cabinet spot, so she's breaking with the party to throw a metaphoric tantrum. All speculation; I really hope she's come to her senses.

I was thinking the same thing. The MAGA base is financially liberal and socially conservative, she's pitching herself to those people for a promotion

No. Shes nothing more than a bilge rat that senses the ship sinking and is dutifully scurrying to higher decks to save her own ass.

Don’t trust this bimbo.

She is a grifter. She will gather the clout with correct statements to prevent Republicans from moving to an actual alternative.

[–] markovs_gun@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Idk. She hasn't done anything nearly as grifter-y as a typical Republican, especially the QAnon type. She was into QAnon back when it was an obscure movement and hasn't really grifted people with it through the usual currency exchange scams, crypto tokens, etc. I think she's a true believer in her principles, it's just that she's an incredibly stupid and incompetent person and those principles are stupid as well. I don't know if someone who is incredibly stupid and easily swayed who actually has principles is better or worse than someone who is actually competent but has no principles and is only driven by greed and personal gain.

[–] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Somehow she always finds a way to blame antifa and not daddy Trump in the end.

[–] markovs_gun@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Again, that is completely aligned with her principles displayed so far. She thinks he's a messianic figure who fights the depe state from the shadows. I'm not saying it's right or smart, but it's consistent.

You do kind of have to admire her seeming to stick to her principles. It's just a shame that those principles are usually deranged.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's the good in you, believing there could be good in even her.

I think a lot of people who do evil things don't see themselves as evil.

I think the Bushes were evil people who did evil things and I'll never forgive them.for all the damage they caused. But I also don't think they were unpatriotic. They believed in what they did and thought they were making society better.

I think MTG is the really stupid, slightly more evil version of that. She really wants to make things better, but not for everyone. But when she clearly sees that the people she does care about (uaully right-wing racist trash) are being hurt, she wants to make things better for them.
