Until we have evidence for a higher sentience from plants this is just how living organisms develop and evolve alongside other organisms who they have a symbiotic with.

I totally get it, language can be hard. While I do not know what exactly you're not getting, this type of linguistic pattern is called "Echoic mention" I believe. Not to be confused with "Echoic question" or similar. Maybe researching that will help you.
