If you are here asking: "Is this a science meme?"

Probably, yes. We use the Dawkins definition of meme: a replicating idea, not just an image macro with a fact on it. A good post here doesn't need to teach you something. It needs to make you ask something: who, what, where, when, and especially why or how.

Science isn't a filing cabinet of facts, it's a conversation. For example, a photo of an eel or other localized wildlife counts because most people never see one, and wonder is the first step of inquiry. A car meme counts if it makes you curious about what's under the bonnet. If you want to talk about something you noticed in the world, chances are someone else wants to talk about it too.

We moderate for vibe, not category. Pruning is light, especially where a post creates interesting discussion. Experimenting is encouraged.

See the pinned paper on Shitposting as Public Pedagogy if you want the academic case for why this works.

I had 2 sinus surgeries. Let me tell you how that went. Doctor yeah no big deal just couple of adjustments. The day of surgery. Ok so here is a trash can for all the blood. I am going to give you 4 shots inside your nose. Now bend over trash can and let blood drain. Bend over and a waterfall of blood. After about 5-10 mins. He comes in and takes a metal chisel and starts adjusting my nose. I could hear the crunching sound and feel the pressure. Then he cuts some pieces out of my nose. About 2 months later it was back to prior surgery status. Next surgery was an inflatable balloon inside the nose cavity. Again I expected simple procedure. Damn if It wasn’t almost a repeat except this time the balloon was being inflated in nostril and I could hear crunching sounds. Same results nose said fuck off mate went back to normal.

They didn't put you under for that?? God Almighty. My septiplasty was brutal but successful so it was worth it for me. At least they had the decency to knock me out for it.

Nope. I heard others tell me they were put under. It was a small practice. I didn’t know any better. Retro spec should have looked up surgery before agreeing to it.

I think some ENT's like to downplay the severity. I was told "we'll do it on Friday and you'll be back to work on Monday" which was completely unrealistic.

Recovery time is more like 7-10 days.

No shit. You don’t realize how much you blow your nose. Especially in hot shower setting. Then not be able to do it for over a month. Due to surgery post op instructions.

I will not try to fix my nose again. It is what it fucking is. Lol

That's brutal. Was this cosmetic or to breath better?

[–] salty_chief@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Not cosmetic. In attempt to correct deviated septum.

Yeah, this is why I stick with breathing through my mouth. Truly horrifying.
