I feel like American’s views of Europe and Europe in actuality are much different

Well, I mean Trump and Brexit happening at the same time was quite the juxtaposition.

That's what happens when your only idea of a continent is from TV and a brief vacation to tourist areas.

Same for the UK (both good and bad)

[–] lastpagan@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Absolutely, but there’s always the good and the bad. It’s not all bad like Reddit would have you believe, similarly to how America isn’t all school shooting and police crushing windpipes.

Yeah I’m from belgium and I really don’t think europeans are as cultured and classy as americans like to think they are. If anything I’ve found americans are more cultured and open-minded

Yes, but pop has a lot of experience and he’s objectively correct in terms of travel and speaking languages lol

I always think anytime someone starts up on this 'Europeans are more sophisticated' crap......"you know we can see clips of your futbol matches online right?"

To an extent he’s right. But also is where you are in the USA

I live in Europe but went to university in DC, I’ve lived in NYC for a long time, and I honestly think people in DC/Northern VA know more about other cultures than the average European.. but they don’t speak more languages. And people from NYC are more accepting of different people (probably because it’s so diverse)

In Spain, The Netherlands, and England (the places I’ve been) I definitely don’t feel like they are any smarter/more knowledgeable than Americans lol. But I think I’ve only lived in very educated parts of the US. Here in Spain we don’t know shit about other cultures lol.

Main thing is that Europeans know that 'Europe' doesn't exist as a culture. It's a landmass and a political entity, nothing else. No one here considers themself to be 'European', you identify with your country. Anything that anyone says about 'Europe' is going to be wrong for a bunch of countries.
