A place to politely discuss the tools, technique and culture of photography.

This is not a good place to simply share cool photos/videos or promote your own work and projects, but rather a place to discuss photography as an art and post things that would be of interest to other photographers.

I am a 34 year old female. I have been dabbling in photography for few years now but nothing serious. I do some side projects at work but again, nothing serious.

Recently, there were few opportunities where I got to do street photography for our clothing collection with a few models and I loved it.

But when I go online to look for photography tutorials to expand my knowledge I realized that there aren’t many women in the field.

Is it just me? Or is this a male dominated field? Is it possible to be successful in this field as an older woman?

I suspect there are more men than women practicing it, but that doesn't mean it's harder to succeed as a woman, just that fewer women tend to do it.

A good percentage of my favorite photographers are women, some of them going all the way back to the 1960s.

So you shouldn't really care about the demographics, just go for it. It's a very competetive field, it's hard for everyone.
