A place to politely discuss the tools, technique and culture of photography.

This is not a good place to simply share cool photos/videos or promote your own work and projects, but rather a place to discuss photography as an art and post things that would be of interest to other photographers.

I am a 34 year old female. I have been dabbling in photography for few years now but nothing serious. I do some side projects at work but again, nothing serious.

Recently, there were few opportunities where I got to do street photography for our clothing collection with a few models and I loved it.

But when I go online to look for photography tutorials to expand my knowledge I realized that there aren’t many women in the field.

Is it just me? Or is this a male dominated field? Is it possible to be successful in this field as an older woman?

I'm a guy, first of all... and I don't have access to any statistics or anything. In the world of online tutorials... I think you're right. For whatever reason there do seem to be a lot more men doing that type of stuff. But when it comes to actual photography, there are a lot of excellent women photographers out there, and I think that's been true for a long time.

It's absolutely possible to be a successful photographer as an older woman. But it's an uphill battle for anyone who is just getting started, regardless of gender.
