I know deeply how infuriating this was to watch, and I'm pretty sure that as bad as it feels now... things will get worse before they get better, and then when they get better a lot of serious shit is going to happen to every masked asshole in that video.

Either the system will rebound and we will have justice, or the system will NOT rebound and we will go get our justice.

The system has been empowering and looking the other way on right wing terrorist groups for decades. They systematically hunted down the leaders of the civil rights movements, they planted crack in the inner cities….all of our elected representatives send hundreds of billions of dollars to Israel to literally commit a genocide. The citizens of Israel have universal healthcare, free college and monthly payments per child from our tax dollars….our system is not fixable. There’s nothing good to rebound to the genocide is here now

George Floyd showed otherwise tho. We got a conviction IIRC.

[–] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

which is why they're terrorizing MN. They are undoing the BLM protests.

''if mass protests manage to get any results at all, even on a local level, then this is what will happen to your state.''

IMO the point of the George floydd protests was justice system reform, not a conviction.

Seems like the people have to go bigger then the floydd protests to get that justice system reform we so desperately need.

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 12 points 2 days ago

and Breonna Taylor? we didn't there. and we didn't do anything to reform the system that killed them.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

There were no reforms and the mass incarceration system continues to grow beyond anything comparable in any country and these prisons are for profit slave camps and the facist police union stands with the ice Gestapo

There should be a word, and I'm sure it exists in German or something, for when you agree with someone's assertions but simultaneously know for a fact they're just doomer-venting and sound like an edgy teen trying to describe to their mom why they wear black.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

These are facts would you like some evidence

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I already said I agree with the assertions, I just don't agree with the bleak, hopeless, roll-over-and-expose-belly-for-master resignation. We've struggled through worst in the past, and generally if you look at all metrics, our quality of life and freedom has only increased over the last several centuries and most unrest and destabilization are just the pendulum swinging, but that pendulum doesn't wind down, history shows it gradually moves forward.

We still owe it to the people who will come after us to do all we can, we still can see change in our lifetimes towards better outcomes we can still help push the needle, we can see grand outcomes when we actually try, we can still involve ourselves to the extent of our ability and comfort, and/or we can have individually great experiences and set aside what media shoves in your face all day, learn to diet and just focus on the problems for a certain amount of time every day.

Go socialize, meet people, create love and safety around yourself with others and see sights in the world while you can.

Yes, shit is going to get bad, maybe worse than anything we've seen so far. But the mountain of skulls we live on to have gotten to this next struggle shouldn't be wasted.

I’m an older person. I have a family and friends and I do lots of things but I’ve also seen my friends and family ground up in our system. I agree humans have survived a lot but we really can’t underestimate the dire situation we are in now. We can not allow this genocide to continue on our soil it will only escalate if we don’t stop it.
