I think Chinese homage watches have their place especially when needing to decide between 2 high-dollar watches and when buying both is financially out of reach. I’d buy the 2 watches from Pagani Design and wear them and see which one I gravitate toward over time and use that experience to purchase the real thing.

“Homage” lol. Just go to your AD and try on the pieces. Even if the exact model you want is not in stock, you should be able to try on other similar ones.

It's not as simple as homage=fake. Replicas with the genuine branding are 100% fake and illegal to buy/sell. If they have their own brand name clearly labeled, it's legal. It's not trying to deceive anyone on close inspection.

Are Smiths and Steinhart fake watches too? Or do they get a pass because they have "heritage" and use Swiss parts and are assembled in UK and Germany?

It's a gray line but it's an important distinction.
