Border Patrol Agent Aiming 40mm Launcher At My Head - ICE Protest 1/31

Picture from Saturday's protest at the Portland ICE facility. An agent fixed his 40mm launcher at my head twice, despite me very obviously being a photographer.

As a brown I fully agree, but also look back at history and think... don't all dominant empires pull the same shit?

[–] Soulg@ani.social 3 points 4 days ago (8 children)

Yes they do, but people are just mad at America specifically right now so they just pretend we're the only country that has ever done anything evil

[–] Soulphite@reddthat.com 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Don't worry. Israel is being a real piece of shit too, in collaboration with the ole pedophile.

[–] Soulg@ani.social 4 points 4 days ago

You're right, but America is funding the genocide so we're still getting the shit for it. And don't get me wrong, we deserve it when we deserve it, but there's accounts out there unironically asserting that America is the root of all evil in the world and that it's only America that is bad

[–] mitch404@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 days ago

Nah, don't worry dude. America is just on the same level as China, Russia, North Korea and others now: not an enemy, not an ally. A potential threat, with a dictator at its head.

I can't do much about the Roman Empire, crusades, Conquistadors, Putin or Winnie Pooh. I can criticise them, just as well as Israel's crimes and the US'. The US is what I have the most contact with and what you'll hear me complaining about most, but not the only thing.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Naw, people are mad because we without a doubt know better now.

[–] ZMoney@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Somehow it hits differently after our society decided that human rights were a thing.

[–] mrbutterscotch@feddit.org 1 points 4 days ago

No one pretends that the US is the only country doing anything bad... Arguably China and Russia for instance are still a lot worse when it comes to human right violations.

But it is a lot more pressing that USA is turning to fascism/authoritarianism since it will then be two global anti-democratic Superpowers not only one.

And before any .ml users jump the gun. Idgaf about how you think China is so great, keep it to yourselves.

This is hardly true. What bullshit, loser, victim mentality.

[–] BeardededSquidward@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Well said. Everyone wants to shit on the USA but no one wants to help.

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 8 points 4 days ago (2 children)

The US needs to fix its own shit.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Good thing that wasn't the attitude towards Germany in WWII.

[–] Typhoon@lemmy.ca 11 points 4 days ago (2 children)

It WAS the attitude until it started invading its neighbours.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

And what has the US, the country with the most powerful military in the world, been threatening to do lately?

[–] MrSpArkle@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 days ago

Keep going they’re almost there.

[–] Soulphite@reddthat.com 5 points 4 days ago (2 children)

People don't realize most of the world turned a blind eye to hitlers atrocities and viewpoints (some even embraced them) it's only when Hitler became aggressively expansive on their territories when the world decided to step in...

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

And they didn't gaf when Spain was going through a civil war over the same shit. Hitler and Stalin both sent support for the side they were closer to, but just crickets from the rest of the western world, less than even the stern words Italy got for invading Ethiopia until the league of nations just dissolved because it was shown to be useless.

[–] Typhoon@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 days ago

Some countries waited years after that to join in.

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 5 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

The US didn’t join WW2 until 2.5 YEARS after it began, and Germany had to declare war on the US first. The US only declared war on Japan.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Yes, but the US wasn't the only country fighting against them.

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 days ago (2 children)

We will burn the whitehouse down again when it’s required.

[–] BeardededSquidward@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Sure you will. You're just as impotent as you say we are.

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

Doesn’t matter, I’m not the one living in a fascist state.

[–] BeardededSquidward@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Oh also before you try to claim that was before your time: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saskatoon_freezing_killings Thank you for playing.

I'm certain your indigenous people would love to say something on that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_genocide_of_Indigenous_peoples

Seems you Canadians aren't much better than us when it gets down to it. Hrm...

I'm certain this won't become a global issue at all.
