I am on the way of transitioning from a DSLR to a mirrorless camera, and although I'm pretty excited about this shift, there's one persistent thought on my mind. The viewfinder.
Mirrorless cameras surely represent the future, having impressive specifications and neat tools. Their compact size and a flipping screen definetly make things easier.
However, does photography simply revolve around techy specifications and cool gadgets?
To me, looking through the lens is more than these. It's a moment of complete immersion, having my full sight observing, concentrating, and perceiving the subject. Sometimes, it even grants me an esoteric sensation of living inside the captured scene. Photography, for me, acts as a conduit, connecting both the physical world around me and my own self.
It gets me thinking, that maybe in a few years looking through the lens won't be a thing, especially in a world where screens dominate our lives and consume us, in a world where the perfect Instagram shot and our camera viewing have the same perception.
Through the lens, we capture not just images, but the essence of human emotion and experience, inwards and outwards.
Try giving art a meaning for yourself and don't forget your uniqueness.
This thought serves as a reminder, not only to photographers but to all individuals.
I don't use the EVF much; I wear thick glasses and find it impractical. My eyes don't like contact lenses. 8 times out of 10, I only use the rear LCD. I don't think that means I'm not expressing the essence of human emotion and experience.
