Do the Warriors resign him to a team-friendly deal (perhaps $80-90 million/4 years) or let him walk to a new team in free agency?

Team-friendly contract that's still potentially an over-pay.

They'll do it for the chance to have him retire with the Warriors. It's good for optics & marketing. Reinforces the idea that they are a great place for free agents to sign because they look after their guys.
