In a sport like basketball, individual players have such a large role and impact on the game compared to other sports. So, you'd think if a coach was unscrupulous and really wanted to win, and easy way would be to just intentionally have his players injure the best players on the opposing team. How come this isn't a common practice?

When they were both with the Nuggets, George Karl accused Andre Iguodola of being a mole for the Warriors in the playoffs and tipping plays. According to Iggy, the plays were basically “try to injure Steph”. random link about it from Google
