I really doubt this person is being genuine, I'm fairly certain I remember them complaining about progressives calling out moderate bullshit not too long ago, so unless a username got hijacked or something I think they're just stirring up shit

You are not mistaken. I have them tagged due to that same behavior. Some Lemmy clients allow tagging of users. I know voyager is a popular option that does. You might already know that and just didn't think their previous comments warranted tagging, but just fyi.
I don't use user tagging because it's a per-client thing and I switch between Voyager on my phone and the web client on my desktop.

Talerico mixes gospel into his speaches, he is the "unapologetically christian" candidate who polled very strongly with Whites and Independents.
But that doesn't matter now, he is the candidate capable of bringing progress to Texas while no others are.
Whether or not you appreciate his candidness about his beliefs, he's talking about true Christian values rooted in empathy and compassion. Jesus was woke.

You seem to have a personal issue with use of Christian ideas in political discussion, you even said in your first comment he’s the best chance for a dem win in Texas.
Remember that if you actually read the bible, Jesus was a revolutionary and would be more or less a communist by today’s standards. Christian churches have often been active in movements for liberation, in the US civil rights movement (MLK was a minister) and in Latin America for two examples close to home.
I was raised catholic, I've read more of the bible, and different versions, than the vast majority of Christians.
It's conservative bullshit used to torture and oppress for thousands of years, from its origins to its ending.
Given the current Christofascist federal admin headed by a literal child rapist, a puppy murderer, and a drunkard advocating literal death or exodus of Palestine, i am extremely apprehensive to it yes.
And that is a very real problem for us trying to unite the left under singular candidates.
Quite the opposite, progressive Christians are the cure for Christofascism. Like it or not, Christians make up about 2/3 of Americans, and they aren't just going to abandon their faith. Showing them an alternative outlet for their faith doesn't enable Christofascism, it actively undermines it.
Did I say I support him? I don't know anything about him, but I think it is useful to have a progressive going after the Christian vote, which is a thing whether you like it or not.

If his religion leads him to all the things I want, then, the most concern I have is keeping an eye on him.
Sure, but that just means he's a guy who appeals to less progressive/more conservative people. Now putting that in the forefront is a decision, but that's different from modifying one's policies to appeal to conservatives. The latter is what's foolish; the former is the equivalent of accepting free lunch.
Harris was also very progressive on policy and appealed to conservatives in perception and people give her unending shit for it.
I think what happened to Cuomo and the popularity of Bernie Sanders should be ample evidence that appealing to conservatives is the losing strategy.
I supported Bernie because he appealed to me as a progressive. If conservatives came along they were welcome to.
I have never been to New York, but if I lived there I would have voted for mamdani because he appeals to me as a progressive.

She planned an unrealized capital gains tax on the rich, removing the ceiling on social security taxes, forgiving student debt, expanding medical coverage, etc.

She did nothing to make people believe she was actually going to do these things; promising to put Republicans in her cabinet certainly didn't. Campaigning on fracking certainly didn't. The amount of accomplishments of the Biden admin doesn't fit on a single page, but on the topic of taxes the 2017 Republican tax bill would have expired this year. I'm sorry to hear you don't believe in taxing the rich. Renewables and environmental protection grew more under Biden than any predecessor.
