Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

The former Central Intelligence Agency director John Brennan has added his name to growing calls for the president to be ousted on grounds that he is unfit for the job, arguing that the US constitution’s 25th amendment addressing involuntary removal from office was “written with Donald Trump in mind”.

Brennan, who served as head of the spy agency during Barack Obama’s presidency, told MS Now on Saturday that Trump’s recent volatile remarks about destroying Iranian civilization and the danger he posed to so many lives merited his removal from the Oval Office.

“This person is clearly unhinged,” he said. “I think the 25th amendment was written with Donald Trump in mind.”

Brennan added that Trump was too much of a liability to be allowed to continue to be commander in chief. He had immense firepower at his disposal, including the US nuclear arsenal.

Per the 25th:

Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue [of the presidents inability to govern] ... determines by two-thirds vote of both Houses that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall continue to discharge the same as Acting President; otherwise, the President shall resume the powers and duties of his office.

It's easier to impeach him rather then hit him with the 25th, impeachment doesn't take his cabinet and 2/3 of the House and Senate to do it. It just takes a majority of the house and 2/3 of the Senate. Considering that didn't work the previous couple times, I doubt something that adds an extra layer along with a more difficult vote would either.

Maybe one could argue something like "They're waiting until after the two year mark so Vance can get the benefits of being the incumbent while also getting two terms" but c'mon, Vance is a charisma black hole. No shot that's the plan. IMO until the outcry drops his approval to like, sub 20, R's aren't going anywhere near getting rid of Trump, and even then I have my doubts.

Yeah the 25th is more for "the president had a stroke, but the administration is working well", impeachment is for "the president is evil and insane but maintains support with his die hards". Impeachment requires crimes or behaviors unbefitting the office, it requires you actually do something wrong. The 25th is far more of a way to remove a president without saying they did anything wrong, it would suck to get it, but it isn't necessarily a shameful thing.

If they invoke the 25th, they do not have to take that as a political loss. Something like "Trump got demented, we got rid of him, but his politics were still good" ...

The Republican MAGA base will not see it that way. And they will slaughter Republican Congressmen in the next election.

No, because if nobody tells him that all he has to do is write a letter to Congress affirming his ability, he'll just pout and stomp around.

He won't look it up himself, he'll just complain on TS and remain removed.

nobody tells him

Why do you think there is any chance of that?

[–] fodor@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 days ago

Por que no los dos?

Vance is a charisma black hole.

And worse than Trump.
