Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, toxicity and dog-whistling are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !askusa@discuss.online
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

Browser solidarity! C reigns supreme, but don't make me do pointer arithmetic. I'd rather do pointless long-division lol What's the preferred ide for C these days? I'm the 'compile and run inside nvim instance' kind of goober
Yeah, browsers nowadays are so powerful, I'd go as far as to say that if you don't game and don't do some niche production stuff requiring specific software, you could make do with just a browser: file management, word processing, spread sheets, media consumption, video calls, chats, etc...
I'm a complete beginner at C but I really like that I chose it as my first language to learn. I don't use any fancy IDE π when outside, I code on an rooted Galaxy Tab A9+ in Termux in vim and compile with
clang. At home, I write on my PC in vim and compile withgcc. You can view my posts over at !c_lang@programming.dev if you want to see how much of a beginner I am. πDo you have a god-tier .vimrc or nahh?
Edit: oh, and I of course use a robust stand to get good viewing angle on the tablet and a mechanical USB keyboard (Deltaco WK90B). This is basically my idea of an ultra portable "laptop". π
Seems like I keep referring to my posts but in all seriousness, speaking of packing serious hear, I just posted some shit about fiddling with power management on my tablet. Short story: it worked. Check it out if you're interested, γΈγ³γγγ
If by god-tier you mean adding
colorscheme industryso that I can read stuff on semitransparent black terminals, then yes. πI had an intense ricing obsession way back when, and I have sadly sold my colorscheme soul to the solarized math wizards. You now have me exceptionally curious about a mathematically superior semitransparentj-specific solarized theme π€
Joke's on Samsung: I'm not updating my tablet anymore π my threat model doesn't really require me to keep up to date with security patches either. As it says in the posts, I'll do some testing next week. βοΈ
Well I'll be damned, it does look great: https://ethanschoonover.com/solarized/
