I'd consider taking Seiko out of the bang for the buck tier based on prices I've seen recently.

I disagree! Seiko has such a wide range of watches, you can buy beautiful, classy pieces with nice movements for even $100, like I recently got myself an SNKL23, or a $400 presage series or a more expensive model for $800. That's absolutely on par or in some cases cheaper than other brands in that tier

Seiko has lost their damn minds recently. Those prices for a watch were +/-15 seconds is totally within spec is fucking nuts

Also, putting Grand Seiko with the likes of Omega is silly as far as perception goes. People in this sub will recognize a GS and that’s mostly it. Plenty of average people have heard of Omega.
