I used to use PipePipe but I constantly have issues with it, and it entirely stopped working months ago, so I'm looking for an alternative.

I'm new to dbzer0, please forgive me if !piracy is not the right community for this topic, and kindly direct me to a more appropriate place. Thanks 🌼

A slight high-jack to your post: NewPipe will stop working with the Google lockdown in September.

I personally think it will be a plus for me, as I keep YT open too much time but for those who rely on it for entertainment, info and whatnot, what alternatives will remain?

Google announced you will still be able to install 3rd party apps although you will have to jump through extra hoops such as a waiting period. Newpipe will live on.

[–] nerv@fedinsfw.app 5 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

You're referring to the 24h waiting window.

But what is being stressed is that no unregistered developer will be able to supply software for Android. The people behind NewPipe are adamant on not complying, hence, the program ceasing to function on registered devices.

Yes they will. In the same way they are now. Users will have that waiting period, which is stupid, but NewPipe will still work.

How come? The way you're explaining it, it seems the situation is being exagerated.

[–] superglue@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

The situation is being exaggerated, although it wasn't a first. Initially, Google declared there would be no option for users to install unverified applications. Later they announced the waiting period.

The waiting period is still a problem and it's Google taking one step closer to solidifying total control over android. But come September, users that still want to use Newlipe will be able to.

So, essentially, the screws are being turned, only slower.
