I used to use PipePipe but I constantly have issues with it, and it entirely stopped working months ago, so I'm looking for an alternative.

I'm new to dbzer0, please forgive me if !piracy is not the right community for this topic, and kindly direct me to a more appropriate place. Thanks 🌼

I use firefox with ublock origin. Its not as good as an app, but it works for me.

[–] akilou@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 month ago

This is what I do too. Get SponsorBlock. It's fantastic

[–] Beacon@fedia.io 10 points 1 month ago (2 children)

IMO browser is superior. What do you feel is better in an app?

[–] CorvusCornix@piefed.social 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Just in my personal experience, I use IronFox with Mullvad, which YouTube flags and throws the "Sign in to confirm you're not a bot" error whereas NewPipe, for example, typically works (I believe they have a workaround similar to yt-dlp that leverages the Android VR API).

YouTube Morphe. It's the new revanced fork after they had some drama. IIRC most ReVanced devs are working on Morphe now.

[–] iocase@lemmy.zip 13 points 1 month ago

Same here. It's daily updates that work perfectly and constantly improve UI/UX. Revanced is like a broken down Ford now who knows if it'll start or work.

[–] Daxter101@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Ah interesting, what was the drama? Might have to jump ship

[–] stepan@lemmy.cafe 7 points 4 weeks ago

i don't really know honestly. some personal disagreements between the leader and other developers.

from my experience, when most devs leave because of the leader, they are usually in the right. but i didn't investigate it much.

[–] kittenzrulz123@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 4 weeks ago

Oh damn I'm still on revanced, imma check this out

[–] silver@das-eck.haus 4 points 4 weeks ago

I didn't know about this! I'll have to check it

I also use grayjay, but mainly for the available backends for multipe sources.

Besides yt I have my twitch subs there and the occasional bilibili and niconico channel.

No more hopping websites to watch the stuff I wanna watch. It's now all in one app.

[–] 0x0@infosec.pub 7 points 1 month ago

Grayjay is nice

[–] ryokimball@infosec.pub 18 points 1 month ago (1 children)

NewPipe on my phone, SmartTube on my TV

[–] Magnolia@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 month ago

Just downloaded it and it works, thanks!

I just read up a bit and realized that PipePipe is a fork of NewPipe. In other words: NewPipe is the original 🤯

PipePipe's GitHub page says

Making a hard fork allows us to effectively address issues with quick fixes and maintain frequent feature updates

It's ironic that PipePipe was forked to adress quick fixes, and not it appears to not work at all (for me) while the original NewPipe does work.

[–] exupulosion@sh.itjust.works 17 points 1 month ago

pipepipe + newpipe, if they both fail then freetube for android

[–] mecen@lemmy.ca 15 points 4 weeks ago

Grayjay

Firefox with ublock

Morphie (I don't use it)

[–] synestia@lemmy.ml 14 points 4 weeks ago

Firefox with ublock.

I've also been using Re-Vanced and NewPipe for a very long time, and seeing this comment section I wonder, why have they fallen out of (relative) popularity?

Not sure why development crapped out, but the Revanced guys are over working on Morphe now.

Newpipe at the moment

[–] nutbutter@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 1 month ago

On phone either a browser with adblock or NewPipe.

On TV, SmartTube.

[–] Nima@leminal.space 10 points 4 weeks ago

i am using pipepipe right now and it works just fine. you probably need an update. if pipepipe is bugged, check the bug reports on the github. I'd bet someone has reported it already.

i have both pipepipe and newpipe installed, but I feel that pipepipe actually tends to be a bit better about actually fixing bugs (not related to youtube connection issues. things like UI issues, etc.)

if neither work well when updated, freetube has an android version you can always try.

[–] Ilandar@lemmy.today 9 points 4 weeks ago

Grayjay. I also use the desktop app.

[–] november@piefed.blahaj.zone 8 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm using Pipepipe. The latest version works fine for me.

[–] AceFuzzLord@lemmy.zip 4 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (1 children)

Same here. At most I just gotta restart my phone because of an IP block that goes away immediately afterwards.

[–] MIXEDUNIVERS@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 4 weeks ago

i use an vpn and when i get an message that it wont load than i switch countrys 1or 2 times and close the app and then it works like a charm.

i fucking love this app

Both PipePipe and NewPipe work at this very moment. If you're having trouble because F-Droid doesn't have the latest updates you can get them from GitHub and Izzysoft instead.

LibreTube works really well for me, I should finally set up my own piped instance though

[–] Mac@mander.xyz 7 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Waterfox with uBlock Origin and Sponsorblock enabled

[–] Teknikal@anarchist.nexus 6 points 4 weeks ago (4 children)

Morphe it's were the better revanced coders ended up after abandoning it due to differences.

It's already better than revanced ever was.

I use grajay for the sync function, was unable to find anything else that could. I have it installed on mobile, PC, laptop and Steamdeck to keep the history and subscriptions synced.

Was using freetube prior to this setup with syncthing but it had problems.

[–] noxypaws@pawb.social 6 points 4 weeks ago (6 children)

pipepipe, currently working great for me. There are times it doesn't but that's YouTube's fault, not the fault of newpipe or pipepipe.

Though I wish they would fix the bug where it can't handle me moving from ipv6-only mobile network to ipv4-only home internet, I have to quit the app and relaunch it and resume the video for it to actually bother trying to resolve DNS again

[–] yum_burnt_toast@reddthat.com 5 points 4 weeks ago

same here, i actually switched to pipepipe because tubular has been having issues for a couple weeks.

Grayjay mainly. PipePipe which still works for me (check if yours is updated) to get individual RSS or channel links.

ReVanced and grayjay

[–] TheMadCodger@piefed.social 4 points 1 month ago

https://fmhy.net/mobile

Many options, including ones others have mentioned.

[–] FedX@quokk.au 4 points 1 month ago

I don't watch YouTube on my phone anymore other than FireFox with uBlock. For me, it's all a YT feed aggregated by RSS and played by MPV on Linux.

[–] qwestjest78@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I use Pipepipe to store subscriptions locally. Then when I see something I want to watch, I use ytdlp to save it on my phone to watch with vlc. Saving the video locally is so great and still has sponsorblock features.
