We were both 40 when our only son was born, and we didn't have the patience for baby talk, so we always treated him like a little adult, and he responded as one.

So I was always surprised when I'd come in contact with his school friends, and they behaved like children! Luckily, his best friend was also super smart, and came from a neglectful situation, and responded to it by getting her shit together at an early age, so she was a good buddy for him. They're still close friends, a decade after leaving high school, because they still can't relate to people their own age, who only seem to be into Marvel movies and Anime.

My observation has been that kids are really fucking capable of learning. But the adults assuming "they won't get it" end up holding back their full potential. So good on you!

Good job! Unfortunately, a lot of people have kids and don't know how to raise them.

Imagine how easy it would be to sew simple parenting classes into schools, but no, broken people are more profitable to capitalism. It's not the parents fault. People have to scrabble to survive, what kind of parent does that pressure create. It's not even the people, my friend. Compassion and empathy are how we change things in the world. Shaming helps nothing.
