Hi, I've currently owned the Sennheiser 660 S just shy of a year now.
With that being said, I told myself I would go for the Sennheiser 800 S.

Don't get me wrong, the 800 S sounds amazing but strangely enough it just made me appreciate my 660 S even more. I feel like the 660 S has better mids and more clarity. I was also underwhelmed by the soundstage. I think I might have had too big expectations for the sound stage where it would have felt more "speakerlike".

What do you guys think about this? Shouldn't I be preferring the 800 S. I'm kinda confused by all of this.

One would naturally assume that the 800s is a refinement of the sound of the 6X0 models but they have almost nothing in common. If you prefer the sound of your 660s you prefer the sound of your 660s and there's nothing wrong with that. You certainly aren't the first person to not be thrilled with the 800s.

It's hard to sort through all the hyperbole in this hobby, especially regarding things like soundstage. I just try to find sound signatures that personally excite me and ignore the voices that wax poetic about aspects of a piece of gear.
