Rules:
1. Be civil
Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.
2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.
Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.
Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

I'm not one to say we need hellish prison conditions to really punish inmates. I'm all for treating inmates humanely, but the least we could do is be consistent about it, right?
If this is the standard of inmate handling, fine. If there is a disparity of how Maxwell is treated vs how another person might be treated for a similar security level, as what seems to be the case here...that's a big problem and is rightly being scrutinized.
This is America, how dare you say we deserve equality? The experience needs to vary drastically between the ~~castes~~ economic classes to show how much better they are to those uppity poors. We have 1st class plane tickets to flex their money so why not 1st class prison too?
I'm all for making prisons better. I'm really tired of nutpicking the worst criminal you can find and declaring "This person should be getting tetnus every time they use the toilet".
Federal prisons are historically better managed and run than state and local prisons because
(a) Feds maintain a significantly smaller inmate population, so there's a lower instance of overcrowding and fewer facilities to manage. The funding per-capita is higher, which affords individual inmates better living conditions and more amenities.
(b) Federal prisons tend to hold more white-collar criminals who can also afford the kind of legal counsel that both discourages the abuses common to state and local prisons and fast-tracks them for early release on good behavior. The end result is a population that is both treated well and well-behaved, leading to fewer instances of the kind of prison violence we glamorize on TV and in the movies.
(c) Federal inmates tend to be older, resulting in the needs of the prisons being different - more services for geriatric patients, fewer needs for restraints or restrictions on activity.
This isn't a situation unique to Ghislaine. It's more a throw-back to how prisoned used to operate prior to the Reagan Era of mass incarceration and budget cutting. There are definitely more modern prisons that are geared towards immiseration (Guantanamo Bay, Alligator Alcatraz). But they cut across all of the above - cheap, shoddy construction and overcrowded facilities, more poor families and migrants without access to legal counsel, more young people who are considered a higher flight/fight risk.
There is a difference in security level. A violent, uncontrollable person cannot be afforded the same flexibility as a nonviolent, compliant prisoner.
Are you saying that all nonviolent, compliant prisoners are being treated this way?
I am not saying all, only some. A rich, well-connected, but psychopathically violent prisoner would not be in club fed.
I thinks you've missed the point entirely.
The original commenter wasn't talking about the disparity of treatment of prisoners that are well connected and rich. They were talking about the disparity of treatment between well connected/rich prisoners and prisoners that aren't well connected/rich.
Everyone with a healthy perspective here are questioning the sanity of a brown person who committed no crime other than being brown being killed by ICE and Ghislaine, who committed and facilitated child rape and torture for a honeypot for the world elite to be treated like a low security nonviolent offender.
