I know it sounds kinda silly but I don’t undergsgandd why tall players like Mitchell Robinson and Nic Claxton are dedicating time working on rebounds and post moves in middle school and highschool instead of just training like a guard. They would be unstoppable if they just put the wolf into doing dribble moves and shooting instead of other stuff. What are your thoughts on this?

The skillset of tall players depends on a couple things. 1) When did they get tall? Some players were average height as kids so they worked on guard skills when they were developing their games. Shooting, passing, ball handling. Then they had growth spurts that made them into tall guards or wings or stretch 4s. 2) How were they coached as kids? When I grew up coaches put all the tall kids in the post to get rebounds. On offense you learned how to play offense with your back to the basket and didn’t work on guard skills. As the game changed most coaches started developing players the same way regardless of size so guys like Chet and Wemby are the result of this.
