Welcome to the largest gaming community on Lemmy! Discussion for all kinds of games. Video games, tabletop games, card games etc.

Rules

1. Submissions have to be related to games

Video games, tabletop, or otherwise. Posts not related to games will be deleted.

This community is focused on games, of all kinds. Any news item or discussion should be related to gaming in some way.

2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate.

We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. If repeatedly violated, not only will the comment be deleted but a ban will be handed out as well. We judge each case individually.

3. No excessive self-promotion

Try to keep it to 10% self-promotion / 90% other stuff in your post history.

This is to prevent people from posting for the sole purpose of promoting their own website or social media account.

4. Stay on-topic; no memes, funny videos, giveaways, reposts, or low-effort posts

This community is mostly for discussion and news. Remember to search for the thing you're submitting before posting to see if it's already been posted.

We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.

5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW

Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed.

No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

6. No linking to piracy

Don't share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine.

We don't want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

i still added myself to the raffle queue. even thou the price is steep, I still see it as an option in the diy PC building landscape. it's a PC, free from the console ecosystem, I can install any os I want, games from my gog library, emulate freely, all in a tiny quiet box.

i think this price is not what they intended, and in the bigger picture valve is tiny compared to console manufacturers, they can't get deals in hardware like they can.

I also think valve could sell as option a version with no storage and memory, lower price, it would fit the diy/options community like a glove

Oh man, I saw your post calling it a raffle and jumped to sign up. It’s not.

It a wait list to make a reservation.

[–] cenariodantesco@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ah sorry if I mislead you, it's a raffle because you sign up for a reservation list but it's not guarantee you'll be selected, on the 25th their system will random pick some and send the email, with the 72 hour deadline to buy

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, I should have spent a little time figuring that out. Now I just need to hope I don’t win: I don’t want it as much as they’re charging

[–] cenariodantesco@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

If you're selected just let the 72 hours period expire, it will move on to someone else

Wait so the raffle would have been the better option??

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They are really cool machines and my teens would love them, so yes, if it were an actual raffle that would be fantastic.

However a couple years ago I spent a ridiculous amount of money helping them build their own gaming PCs, and get rid of their consoles. We don’t need to spend another $1,500. And I rarely have time to game

Oh I see, you mean an actual raffle and not just a pert chasing que, that would be fun but idk feel like that could be manipulated by scalpers somehow. It would be fun tho.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 1 points 22 hours ago

For sure, that’s why I went directly there without finding out, amazed it could still be open

But I imagine deterring scalpers is a big problem art of the reason to raffle for a spot in line. Scalpers are actually a big part of the reason we switched away from consoles to begin with. When the Xbox series X was released, two Christmases in a row, I was unable to get them because limited stock and too many scalpers. Fuck that.

No scalpers buying up all the gaming rig components ….. then we got ai
