I'm not the biggest fan of scooters but with that said,

“There is a direct relation to people riding around on illegal scooters and committing crimes.”

is quite a stretch here. People on scooters often ignore traffic laws. They don't often do drive-by shootings.

is quite a stretch here.

You're moving the goalpost though. Let's keep the focus on these illegal scooters and do something about it. Shifting of goalposts wastes time, I'm guessing you'll soon talk about gun control, which is pointless as those guns are legal and the scooters weren't. Focus should be on the scooters.

Drive by shootings have been a thing for decades. When's the car ban dropping?

[–] nondescripthandle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Im honestly surprised, I feel like I couldn't even fire a 9mm pistol from a scooter accurately enough to hit my target without falling down from more than maybe 10ft out. Maybe im just thinking too much about not trying to hit other things though, Id imagine just spraying could work but thats beyond irresponsable and way more likely to leave the target your aiming at alive.

It doesn't seem like these guys were firing accurately - I doubt that "1 dead, 3 injured" was their specific intent.

Thats what gets me though, If you're convinced you need to shoot someone and you do so sloppily, they have a higher chance of living and you have a higher chance of getting caught. If your target lives you likely become a target yourself, or at best now theres a firsthand witness and you can be put away much longer. Its similarly bad for you if you hit bystanders. It's like popping a zit with a hammer.

I presume this is gang warfare and the intent is to attack the enemy gang rather than to kill someone in particular. Shooting bystanders does seem to get a lot more police attention than shooting other gang members, but maybe this was a group of enemy gang members.

This is the worst elf on a shelf meme I’ve seen.

[–] sentient_loom@sh.itjust.works 13 points 7 months ago

Great headline, terrible tragedy.

[–] UnfortunateShort@lemmy.world 13 points 7 months ago

Ok, you cannot name murderers "shooters on scooters" without wanting to make people feel bad for laughing.

[–] MagicShel@programming.dev 9 points 7 months ago

It started with bananas in pajamas and now they've graduated to shooters on scooters.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 5 points 7 months ago

I read on my computer about the scooter shooters.

[–] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago (1 children)

And, incoming ban on scooters in NYC in 3, 2, 1...

Wouldn't want there to be any school scootings.

[–] JimboDHimbo@lemmy.ca 3 points 7 months ago

Aw hell, the NY shooters are learning from the UK drill scene.

[–] RubberElectrons@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Wtf do they mean "illegal bike"??

[–] JimboDHimbo@lemmy.ca 2 points 7 months ago

Probably like a E-bike, or dirt bike.
