Russian state-affiliated accounts have boosted their use of TikTok and are getting more engagement on the short-form video platform ahead of the U.S. presidential election, according to a study published Thursday by the nonprofit Brookings Institution.

The report states that Russia is increasingly leveraging TikTok to disseminate Kremlin messages in both English and Spanish, with state-linked accounts posting far more frequently on the platform than they did two years ago.

Such accounts are also active on other social media platforms and have a larger presence on Telegram and X than on TikTok. However, the report says user engagement — such as likes, views and shares — on their posts has been much higher on TikTok than on either Telegram or X.

Putin would kill for another Trump presidency, but all he needs to do is convince people not to vote for Biden. Trump’s unwavering base will do the rest.

Pretty much. Low turnout always favors the gop.

Is it just my partners feed or is there a lot more "totally definitely real russians" appearing on the platform? I'll occasionally overhear shit like "in Russia we believe in a free market. See I'm a hair stylist, and I didn't need any training or certificate, and i have built a great business. america would never allow this because they want to keep their people poor. Russia is a true land of opportunity!"

I don't know if these people are paid or delusional, likely both, but I have trouble with such blatant propaganda picking up traction.

At the end of the day, Russia generally does exactly what you expected it to do all along.

Just a reminder that this is a fixable problem. And the solution is not to make the rest of us suffer.

Sure, fund Ukraine and uncle vlad wont have quite as much money to blow on propaganda and foreign interference.

I agree. New rule: every video or comment that is traceable back to Putin results in another billion dollars in free gear to anyone who will use it to cause problems for Russia. Watch how fast the "as a black woman I am voting for Trump" factories there shutdown.

[–] Pan_Ziemniak@midwest.social 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

XD if only it were so easy to trace back, but i appreciate ur heart being in the right place

[–] afraid_of_zombies@lemmy.world 1 points 6 months ago

Sure I agree. Under that situation the advisable thing for Putin to do is be beyond reproach.
